rocking hounding! Cool rocks Some of those chalcedony I took for quartz and some of those jaspers leaned towards chalcedony But this one is definitely mix a Jasper quartz chalcedony with a touch of carnelian hue Were you in one your usual Nevada hounding areas? O and that common opal Is that polish-able or is it to soft?

O and that common opal Is that polish-able or is it to soft? Technically agate and jasper are chalcedonies. Yes, central Nevada. I had to make two trips to Reno in the last 30 days so I have been exploring new areas on the way up and on the way back. Have a lot more stuff, including several carnelians I still have to photograph. Most of the opal up there is hard enough to cab. The only opal that would be hard to cab would be the sunset red opal which for some reason fractures more easily and it is almost impossible to find pieces big enough to cab. The other colors are hard and solid enough to cab. I have found a lot of light and dark green, dark brown, purple, white, yellow, bluish, butterscotch, salmon, pink and a few others. Recently found a really cool what I first thought was a black opal. Better lighting revealed it is actually a purplish-brown. And found what looks like a precious opal. I see some fire in it.

If you want to wear that for a necklace you will need to put it on a towing chain. That piece of chalcedony is just over 30 pounds.

I think she needs to be cut open to see what is inside I may someday. Or sell it to someone who will cut it. I don't work with harder stones like chalcedony very often. I have a lot of other stuff to focus on right now.

Those unknowns are really cool looking. You've done a great job finding interesting material. Would love to see the opal w/play of color.

Still catching up on some of the other material including the orange chalcedony and black agates, which were some of my favorites.

Those are awesome! Just a friendly note: If you ever find you're running out of storage space, I've got some extra room near my tumblers.
