KD, those are really beautiful. I'd like to make jewlery out of some of my pieces too. Is there such a thing as a glue/epoxy/cement that you wouldn't have to drill a hole?

Very very nice KD! I like them all too, they have a pleasing look to them. Sometimes simple is the ticket, great job, Don

I like them too. By keeping things simple you put the focus on the polished stones. I've never made any jewellery, but I might like to try something like this myself sometime.
BTW, why did you choose to drill them instead of using a glue or cement....seems that drilling would risk chipping them, no?

Hey KD, Those look great! Do you drill the holes first and then tumble them or tumble them and then drill the holes? I don't know what kind of Diamond Drill bit you use ... I get mine from Tripps. I think they run .99 cents when you buy 10 or more. www.tripps.comThey also have the findings that you are using as well as the epoxy type bails in Sterling Silver and 14K. If you have not checked this place out ... it is worth a look! Enjoy, John

KD, those are really nice. I, too, like the simplicity of them - really shows off the stones. I love the one with the white stripe in the middle. That is a cool stone - solid color on one side and the black and white pattern on the other! Neat! Excellect job! I have a Dremel drill press set up and some diamond bits I got at the rock show, I just haven't yet gotten around to setting it up and trying to drill rocks. One of these days! Care to share on how you drilled your rocks? I need all the help I can get! llana

this is how i drill the rock, yes it's a meatloaf tin!!!! also a Micro Mark drill press with some very custom made aluminium jig/vise parts...... i fill the tin with water (maybe i'd better start using coolant??) and line the drill guide up to where i want the hole and gently try to make the hole where i want it.....the bottom is fitted with a piece of aluminium and sealed with waterproof caulk. cool rig, huh? hey kd thats a realy nice little drill press and a great vise set up i like the idea of the meatloaf pan like ya said you can fill with water --i liked rons setup too but i think i kinda like the metal pan alittle better easyer to clean up-- i just use a gallon milk jug mixed with cool tool right now i had an extra spray top from a gallon of bug juice with a long hose on it and a little vise i might be thinking about changing up after seeing yours hahaha

Your pictures of your drilling set-up are great. Did you drill all the way through the stones? I've read that you have to drill in from both sides to prevent chipping out rock as you exit. Do you use the vise-jig to get the drilling from both sides lined up? I have to convince my hubby to put together something like you have. Thanks for sharing. Ellen/mudd1973 Los Angeles

on the thin stones that i have tried to drill through, i have experienced "break out", my better mountings just involve about a 1.5mm hole 1/8" deep in which i mount a stud with epoxy and seems to hold pretty well as a pendant.
i am very new to this so i am still experimenting,
thanks for your interest! KD
