This is a back lit photo of the same rock in my previous posting. This is what I sometimes do with the tiny polished rocks. A back lit piece of MO agate. Pet Palm Wood cut in a few different ways. A few pieces of some "Wood" a friend from TX sent me that I cut and polished. This is a little ecard I made to send friends and family. These are more of the beach rocks back lit (please excuse the blurry photo) A few pieces of Montana agate i cut and polished. A few pieces of pet wood a friend sent me that I cut and polished. This guitar was my 1st attempt at rock carving This is a carving I did for my mom for Mothers Day a while back.It is carved out of a local CT white marble. My carving photos were taken with a web cam before I got my digital so they are of poor quality. Last but not least my 1st attempt at carving a small candle bowl out of alabaster. I hope ya like um!!!!!! Tom

Verrrry nice Tom!! I especially like the photo editing. Are you using Photoshop on a Mac? That guitar looks like it's cut out ready to mount the pick-ups. Good imagination too! All the stones look great! Nice Job Tom! Kudos!!

Hi cookie and Banjocreek,
Thanks for the compliments!!!
I have a Nikon COOLPIX 5400 camera and I use the editing program that came with it.
I can't do all that i'd like to do with the editing program on my pc but I guess it's good enough for now.
Thanks again,,,,,,,,,

Hey Tom,
If that guitar was your first attempt at carving ... I am most certain that we will be reading about you in the papers or our favorite rock magazine someday!
That is totally awesome!
Great work there ... keep it up!
Enjoy,
John

great stuff, i love the jar of tiny stones. superb idea for the stuff you can't really DO anything with but can't seem to part with (i.e throw away).
nice, very nice stuff, anybody else try carving in here?

Hi Kim,,, My carving all started when I saw Rick Stinson's work.I contacted him and asked allll sorts of questions! He was nice enough to send me a few "perfect" clear quartz crystals to carve and I just could not bring myself to do it,,,,,,,,,and I still haven't "hacked" them up after several years!!!! I am NOT very creative at all as my final high school art grade will attest to.It was a 16 for the year!!!!!!My mom and dad almost flipped over the grade but as usual my mom (a self tought artist) saved me from a disaster that my dad was about to inflict upon me!!!! So you see for me to even think about carving was nuts!!! Well me "being" a nut off I went!!! I bought a Dremel and all it's "goodies" and some real cheepo diamond burrs. Now I didn't have a clue what to carve so I choose a guitar because I've played since I was a kid and knew what one looked like. The reason I choose that particular rock is because that's all I had that wasn't tumbling rough and it was kind of flat. I "tried" to draw the guitar on the rock but just couldn't get it to look right so I just started carving away.It took me several sittings to finally finish it and I learned a LOT about carving doing it. I'm really proud of it and shocked the WHOLE family (especially mom amd dad) when the saw it for the first time! If I could start over again I would choose a different material such as alabaster which can be carved using normal every day saws, files, scrapers, drills and even pocket knives. The real good part is that you don't have to use water with alabaster as you do when using diamond burrs. I guess that about sums it up but if you have any other questions,,,,,,,ask away,,,,,,,,, Tom
