Curious about rust
rockjunquie . Darn metals and their oxidation don't always get along with human skin.
Never mind, looks like they make it out of stainless too.
Raindrop, Fire storm, twisted, all kinds of patterns looking at knife billet on Ebay. Raindrop too cool.
Knife billet seems to be limited in thickness at 5mm.
I guess hardness is no issue with diamond wheels.
Most knife steel is worked soft and then furnace hardened after shaping is complete.
Seems softer the better for cabs. Super-forged steel like Damascus has to be some kind of hard when hardened.
Come to think of it the high temp of cutting it with a plasma cutter may effect the hardness in an adverse way.
I have worked with 3 layer knife steel, a super hard(BUT brittle) center layer for the knife edge and two tough unbreakable layers forged on each side for durability and breakage prevention.
Similar to Damascus process except 3 layers instead of many layers.
