Ok....I'm tired of scrubbing after polish stages.....actually, I'm tired of scrubbing altogether.....lol.....But I realize it's a fact of life with tumbling.....particularly if the material has not been beat up for months at a time in the 1st two cycles...........I just purchased a 6" alum head a few Sic disks and a diamond faceting disc with backing plate. That should help with initial prep after cutting.
So....without breaking the bank, what do those of you who use such recommend....?
Size can be an issue....so I'm looking for around .50gal....just big enough to throw 6 to 8 pieces of 1" to 2" stones at a time.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.......!

The opening on my Minisonic MT-4 is 2 5/8" x 2 5/8", so it will accommodate your size range and capacity is about right too. I love mine! Very quiet, no moving parts, and dial-ability for more or less aggression. I picked mine up on Ebay used for about $100, bought a new 2nd hopper for $50.

I've decided to forgo the ultrasonic idea........the grinding/shaping prep I'm performing now seems to have reduced the "polish pit" issues pretty well.......still have some issues with Mex Lace Agate, but since I use the Lace more for filler material, by the time they are recycled through many tumble stages they have been turning out (small) and clean.......I'm also now soaking my troubled polished stones in a soap solution overnight right after tumble and burnishing them in a dry walnut shell mix. That seems to help also.....!
