Tonight's melt consists of test melts for newly acquired vase shards and bulk broken China made millefiori beads. Finally arrived at a heat schedule for the bulk millefiori beads; good thing because they are over the top and were brittle in past attempts. Tumbling, dropping on concrete floor from 6 feet up and hot-to-cold water shocking is good testing methods for strength. Glass with known temperature schedules is tough and durable. About like fine unfractured agate in impact tests. Newly acquired vases/plates Test melts at top, China beads bottom China beads melted, lots of color/pattern "Evil Eyes". And about have to be tumble polished. A favorite because of the wild outcomes.

Time to go to market. Pumped, lots of money and time invested. Venue is the famous Inman Park Art festival this fine Saturday and Sunday with fine weather. Should be close to 100 jewelry dealers. I will carry a man purse with 300-400 pendants with labels on the back of each pendant and hand them out. Well, marketing ain't free. Jewelers that make jewelry related to my products will be scrutinized and samples given more generously. This is a lot of fun and I enjoy this type of marketing. Food, drink, crazy folks, fine weather, cool art on display, exciting and lots of action. 73F and sunny both days. Can't go wrong. Wish me well my lapidarian brothers and sisters. If interest ensues a Wix website will get built for upcoming festivals. My labels to stick to the back of the pendants: inmanparkfestival.org/booths/street-market/inmanparkfestival.org/booths/arts-crafts-market/

I knew those would turn out killer, always a great color combo! Thanks for showing them, James.
I was at the thrift store a couple days ago, saw a couple of rectangular carnival glass dishes. Didn't see how much they were (was in a hurry to get the next thing on my list done) . I'll bet it wasn't more than a buck or two. I have been looking at the different stores, though. Have not seen any of the fancy-schmantzy blown glass, though. Will keep looking.
ETA - Oh, wishing you well this weekend, knock 'em out, James. And most important of all (well, second most important), have fun!

The good time a given Tela. As far as the glass Gods yet to be seen. Thank you very much. Must say I am psyched. I appreciate your suggestions along the way. Let's see if this strategy works. You will hear back.

Those 2 vases worked out fine. The glass did not agree for a quality kiln formed dome but the lapper and tumbler did them well. Forced me to work at the bench. I wonder about the south being a hot spot for decorative containers. With our abundance of clay decorative pottery was a big part of our culture for generations. Space was always allotted by Grandmother and Great-grandmother for such decoration. In the 'living room' for instance(no kids allowed). Lots of old money in this city and no doubt a hot bed for expensive glass being sent away with the estate auctioneers when older family passes away. Thanks for the well wishing. I hope to stay out of trouble however I am game for whatever, it is spring. And the first time in 30 years not going full tilt with those damn aquatic plants. Chain and ball removed. I do miss my plants and clients. 3 of 6 of my clients shut down as they can not find water plants worth their weight. I told them I spoiled them all these years. And some of them hired new purchasing people that went around me any chance they got to save a penny reaping havoc on the inventory I speculatively planted for them. They are finding out how well I looked out for them. Great feeling, I was loyal to them. They are figuring it out now.

Good luck with the show!!! Thanks for your suggestions sax. Hope to be posting smaller 'for sale' photos soon. Maybe a nice little roaring business will be seeded. If they buy it will fund me to buy yet finer raw material. I know where to get it.

Holly samoly, looks like you could open your own Mall full of stores. 400 stickers, you need a gaggle of kids to help you out there.
I really like the marketing idea. Tough to sit in a booth for two days. Jim

Tough to sit in a booth for two days. Jim Better to sell to the booth sitters Jim. Hope it goes that way because that 12 hour/day booth sit is 12 too long for this one. How about 5 hours, an easier day of it. Maybe they can have time to sit and ponder the glass I hand them. I will be generous w/the handouts. For variety's sake. At least the handouts will soften the pain of my solicitations. There will be glass fusers there, curious to their reaction of tumble molested glass lol. I am the type that would hand it to them and peek around the corner to watch them mystified. The tumble effect does perplex glass artists. Have watched this impact w/amusement. Rock on lapidary folks !

You'd have a blast there Alison. Wish you were closer because you would get an invite. You ride bikes ? Looks like 3 glass blowers will be present. I'll be over there hustling their scraps. I believe this is a juried event so the work is of fine quality. Or the political connections good lol. I used to rent an apartment during the off season in Inman Park, it is one of the coolest sections of old Atlanta. The old homes are of amazing architecture. Walk to many fine restaurants.

You would be at home if you like people watching because of the shear quantity at festivals.

She is still in her childhood (jk, Ali), and California is a state, so can't be a capital, lol. Sacramento is the capital. Are you leaving for the festival at the crack of dawn, or do the artsy people sleep in, and show up a bit late, after they've had their Starbucks? Well, regardless, good luck with your gem glass distributing. May it be very effective for you. Going to the silent auction tomorrow. Will try to keep from bringing too much home. But you know me.........
