Hi All, I started rockhounding and tumbling about a year ago. Still very much an amateur. I just bought a vibe and haven't really figured out what works best for media.

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina. There are many great tumblers on here that can probably answer just about any question you have.

Hi. Welcome o the forum from Florida. I use ceramic media purchased from The Rock Shed on everything in prepolish and polish. I use the Lot-O vibe for those stages. What vibe did you get?

Welcome to the Forum from Northern California! Large and small ceramic media from The Rock Shed is my GoTo media for vibes. The ceramic media sold there is low in abrasive content I am told... which is desirable in that you don't want the embedded abrasives ruining a shine in the finer grit stages. I use twice as much large ceramic media as small (the small wears out faster and begins to accumulate at the outer edges of the vibe run. As they get smaller, they climb the inner walls of the vibe bowl and overflow - in pieces - to the table below... a bit messy... but more annoying than anything). I am now experimenting using polished pea gravel (aquarium gravel) and am very pleased at how well it does... especially in the UV-10 and UV-18. I am beginning to use it in the Lot-O and the Mini-Sonic 4 processing small Turritella shells... no probs yet. Just make sure you run the pea gravel through all stages to get them polished first before using it in the finer stages and polish. Then sift through the gravel to remove the real small stuff and rocks that are jagged or porous and could trap grit from previous stages. (thanks jamesp!!!) Glenn
