Hi All, Any quick id's on this stone? it's approximately 4x4x3. Found again on a Whidbey Island beach which I'm surprised at, I didn't think they were here. Thanks -Sean

The appearance looks like Disaster Peak Jasper (not a real jasper but more of a silica rich rhyolite that has been weathered). How good of a polish does it take? "Jaspers" like Chicken Track and Disaster Peak only take a so-so polish unlike Owyhee and Succor Creek.

As rmf said, this does look to have the porphyritic texture of a rhyolite, and may not take a good polish. Worth a try, though. As Whidbey Island is formed mostly of rock from elsewhere (glacial and alluvial deposits), it may have been transported down from the northern Cascades.
