I'm just coming back to tumbling after probably close to 10 years - I was a member here a long time ago and managed to recover my account
I remember the process I used to use was coarse, 220, 400, polish. The kit I have now came with coarse, fine, pre-polish and polish. Are these the same stages as the pre-polish looks a little different to the old 400 grit I remember, it's more powdery and greenish.
Thanks

Different suppliers use different step 3 media. Some call it pre polish. It is usually silicon carbide 400, 600, or mixed grade 5F but can be aluminum oxide 600. Silicon carbide can be green or black but green not very common in grit kits. Aluminum oxide will be white. In 600 range silicon carbide is like flour. Generally you are better off not buying kits, especially small quantity kits. You will use much more coarse grit than the other grits.
