We have a box of chocolates that I was going to send her, so I wasn't planning to make jewelry. But when I saw the Prudent Man plume agate that Tommy posted with his "April Cabochons" — I knew immediately that it was perfect for her. The colors in the agate are what she likes. The faceted stone is a 4.5 mm rhodolite garnet. The silver texturing that looks like sugar in the photos is quite sparkly to the eye. That wasn't part of the plan but I screwed up when soldering the bail/setting combo to the body. I should have used gravity to help with solder flow. Instead I soldered the piece level and the solder flowed out onto the backplate. So I added the texturing to hide it. I polished 4 tiny facets on the very tip of a hammer handpiece point and just hammered away. Because I cut a limited range of material, I am a potential customer for the cabs that you post. I much prefer sloped or rounded edges. I put Tommy's agate to my Pixie to give the top edge a very slight radius. I nearly always hammer-set my stones and banging bezels down onto them requires a gradual contour.

Really like the texturing. It adds something. The Garnet is a nice compliment.

Stunning! Your mom will love it. It always amazes me when someone makes a mistake and then fixes it and makes it better. That was a lucky mistake in my opinion.

I love it! I particularly love the texturing you did. I know you said you made the tip. Have you used the pave tip or is yours different?

That is incredibly well done. Just beautiful. Don't ya love when mistakes actually help you improve the piece?

I don't have a true pave tip, so I used this standard tip which had previously been ground to a sharp point. The tiny facets on the very end that I polished by hand can can barely be seen in this photo:

I too, really like the texturing. That is WAY better than ANY box of chocolates I have ever seen!

That is really, really nice! Far better than chocolate. Besides, the chocolate would have melted all over her blouses.

It always helps to start with an awesome cab. That is a beautiful piece you created around an awesome cab.

That's extremely nice work, and a great design that fully compliments the stone.
