jamesp Do a black/blue/white melt for me. Those are the colors of a local school. Still waiting for the gold/purple (aka MN Vikings colors) as those are the colors of the local UW and a HS.

Big problem with white glass. I have plenty of white but it cracks terribly. White glass is picky but mine is crazy bad. I just found a pile of light purple opaque. Should be melt testing it soon. My purple opaque's are all greyish in a bad way. You know the translucent look black unless back lit. Need opal(opaque).

Western rocks are just plain exhilarating to collect. It is like a treasure hunt every step. Used to be creative about getting into trouble miket . Subject matter has gotten much more academic these years. I'd want to learn your bag of tricks just as well. This Fairburn was named after a town in England. S Dakota Fairburn was named because of a creek there, 'burn' is a Scottish word meaning creek. Population only 85 in 2010 census ! I have more rocks and wood than I know what to do with... Most of us used to get in a lot more trouble I think, jamesp . And some of us still manage to. C'mon out, I'll teach you everything I know- a half day should about cover it! See, I'm learning from you already. Yep, it's huge. Next time we go hounding up that way I'll take some pics of the hot spots in town. You westerners always have more rocks than you can use. Life is so boring now. Trouble keeps the blood flowing ! Small towns can be a great source of trouble. Just show them an opportunity. Should be a book written on this subject. Small western town trouble, yes, a whole new volume. Is not Fargo near there ?

So lazy. Trying to avoid metal and jump rings. This slip knot orients the pendant proper. This is 1/8" deer leather in natural color. Kangaroo leather is even finer.

LOL. My inlaws settled near Fargo in the mid 1800's. Then moved to Bismark area. When we went to family reunions the joke was always to go "into town", Bismark. The place where the boys always got into trouble.
FYI. Fargo is in SE ND, near MN.
Bismark is in South Central ND. My husband's relatives were mostly in Wishek, only about a 45 minute drive from Bismark.

I love the natural look of the leather to contrast with the glass. Very Hippie appealing.

The Oco effect 1dave. Large whitetail bucks are known for the compressed pellet effect in winter probably due to acorn consumption.

The yuppies (millennials?) of Atlanta will eat them up! Nice work, James. (Oops, shouldn't say that four letter word, that would make it less fun.)

Ya know, I like to give jamesp ideas for his melts, but I would never be so forward as to make requests. I hate seeing the generousity of RTHlings being taken advantage of. Do you pay him for these? That really makes it a job. Just sayin'....

That's right fernwood. Minnesota is N Dakota's eastern neighbor. Never thought about it. Relatives from N Dakota makes good sense. N Dakota sounds like sub freezers and high winds. I'd die there in 7 minutes. Love the leather myself, a bit concerned about it in the vegetable grazing section of town where sales for glass should be good. Looking at cotton cords as an alternate. I love wearing cotton. Maybe in the ROYGBP(is that how it goes knave) colors and match the glass to the cord color...

One way to tell if you have a big buck lurking rockpickerforever is if the scat pellets are compressed together and the diameter is 1.5 to 2 inches. Doe and young buck scat resembles rabbit scat - loose pellets. It is one of the few ways to know without seeing the animal or reading his weight/size from tracks. Tree litter can hide all tracks in a large forest. The big ones rarely show in day light. I was hoping to get by easy making pendants. The slip knot idea jumped out the other day. The glass is so color busy the simplistic jump knot made sense.

Sorry but cotton will scream dollar store or flee market. Use faux leather or para cord... kinda like Keen laces. Just trying to stir the pot.
If you wanna go all the way hippy use sisil but that might be scratchy on the skin

I have seen bamboo fiber cord that was impressive. There are some intricately made cotton cords too. Silk cord might be another possibility.

Good point on the quality cotton. I was picturing pale pink balls of yarn in my mommas cupboard.
