Here's a couple more projects I have done with my rocks Magnets. The top and bottom ones are flint, the ones on the end are picture rock and the middle one is agate of some sort, I think. Rock and cactus garden in box made of weathered wood. I thought about putting rocks down both sides to cover the frest cuts, but thought that might be too much. Hope to be able to sell these at the Apple Fest on Saturday. I love the cactus and rock garden - I just love cactus and rock - period! LOL! I can't decide if I have too many rocks around the cactus or if I should cover all the dirt with rocks. What think ya'll. Any suggestions to make it better will be appreciated - even if I don't have time to do it between now and Saturday! But, I plan on making more of these to sell at flea markets and stuff, so can use it on those! llana

Thanks, KD. I made another box - the wood cracked when I tried to put it together, so didn't put any rocks on it. But did put some cactus in it and it's been sitting outside for a month or so. We have had some rain and I have also watered it a bit and it seems to drain okay. The weathered wood is so porous and warped it is hard to cut perfectly straight, so around the bottom there are a couple of places the wood did not fit snuggly together, so I image that helps it drain. Since the wood is weathered from being outside in the elements, it can definitely live outside.
BE and I found the magnets at WalMart, I think. 75 of them for about $5 or $6. Can't remember how much, but not very expensive. I glue the rocks to the magnets with either Goop Crafters glue or the E6000. that stuff WORKS! LOL!

I love the cactus garden, and the magnets are a good idea too! My own opinion on the garden is to be a little more sparing on the polished rocks. They are a treat to inhance the garden. I think the cactus should be the main item, and a few rocks in as eye catchers, sort of like you would do a landscape, the polished rocks should lead your eyes to the cactus. What if you used just one type of rock for each garden? Maybe one garden of quartz, another with amethyst, another of carneliaia agate etc. I think it is a beautiful arrangement, and what ever you decide will look just great. Good work, and great imagination!

The cactus gardens are cool. I'll bet you sell out of those early. On the subject of the fresh wood cuts, I would get some of the wood that you make your walking sticks out of and split or cut it lenthwise and glue it over the fresh cuts to hide them. Maybe paint some apples on the side. Those cactus planter boxes were a great idea.

I wish I had a bunch of them to sell! But, that's the only one. I have several pallets that I intented to use for making several type of planters, just haven't gotten them made. Didn't really expect to have any made by Apple Fest though.
Course, I don't have very much cactus - at least that I want to get rid of - either. Got some babies started, but they aren't ready to put in a planter. Maybe by the time I get more planters made, I'll have more cactus. Course, the planters don't have to be used for cactus.

I especially like the planter box Llana. They would be a hot item and I bet you won't be able to make them fast enough. I think the amount of rocks in the box is just right.Your call though! You must be one busy woman and your work is VERY creative!! Tom

Hi Llana, what great idea the magnets and I love that cactus rockgarden too.
Have you thought of using a woodstain on the sides? That would take care of the fresh cuts i believe.
And as for the stones, I think you have enough in with the cactus. I wonder if it would look better if you put a few on the sides of the box as the sides look very bare compared to the top. I was thinking of the Y shape or a diamond shape, but not too busy.
Good luck and thanks for sharing with us.

Hello llana, Great job on that project, I like the cactus gardens as well . I like the stones in around the cactus and there are so many colorful varieties of cactus, you could end up with many different color combinations. Looks great to me ;D. Enjoy, John
