Hi everyone, Here are a couple of cabs that I have been working on, that I thought you might enjoy looking at. This is a piece of Bruneau Jasper. It is very hard jasper, they have actually found arrowheads made from this material in Oregon. It's a porcelain jasper and it takes a gorgeous polish. This is Plume Agate from Oregon. I wish I had a hundred pounds of this material. It's very nice with the blazing red and gloss black plumes. It's a keeper . Enjoy, John

I noticed that your cabs are not the norm oval shape but freeform. What do you do with your completed cabs? I like to do some with a different look to them.

I've got to agree with you on that Plume Agate! They are both fine pieces of stone, all cleaned up and purdy. You do nice work. What kind of grinder, and polisher do you use. I'm still shopping, and could use a tip. Thanks

Another excellent job. They are both very nice, but I prefer the Bruneau jasper...a matter of taste I guess.

John, once again you have blown me away with your work! The rutilated quartz is my fav out of the three, but these are also beautiful The Bruneau jasper reminds me of White Sands, NM. at dusk. The plume agate looks like a fish up against the side of an aquarium. Don't know what kind of fish though! LOL!

It's me again, Thanks for the kind words . Brett - I have many purposes for my cabs. I sell them to custom jewelers, use them for my wife's jewelry (she has a boat load too) and sell them on eBay from time to time. It's funny, but my personal collection is very small. You would think that after cutting stones for 24+ years, I would have boxes and boxes of cabs put away. But, I don't. Banjocreek - I saved my money and purchased a Diamond Pacific Genie. It is a diamond wheel set up and in my opinion, it the best cabbing machine that you can purchase. I purchased my first machine over five years ago and I bet I have cut two or three thousand cabs with it and it's just getting to the point where the 280 grit wheel is needing replaced. I currently have two of these machines (you know a man has to have a spare ). They are pricey though, my first one was 1,500.00 and within six months I made enough money with it in cab sales to purchase a slightly used machine for 1,000.00. I can easily say that they have paid for themselves many times over. So, it's a good investment. If you ever get a chance to try one, do it .. they are great machines and you never have to worry about dressing the wheels or wheel chatter, like you do with the silicone carbide wheels. I would highly recommend these machines to anyone. KD - I wish it was smoke and mirrors, they would be so much easier to make . Enjoy, John

Beautiful work John , that Jasper makes me think of desert sands like Sahara ...no I've never been there. It has a lot of depth as if it is inviting you to take a walk and keep on walking looking for that oasis....always over the next dune.
and that Plume agate , yes , you realy captured it at its best.
Thanks again Jack

Wow. I figure I'll be doing very well if my cabs come out just half as good as yours John. Please keep sharing the beautiful work you do!
