If you bought Chicago Electric tumblers from HE between 2011-2016, watch your mail. I bought several, and my husband bought several other items in that time period. Yesterday we received a gift card for $160, which I gather is 30% what we paid for the tumblers & other items we bought in that time frame because we thought they were on sale. Apparently, their advertised sale prices during that era were no lower than their regular prices, so the court ordered them to refund 30% of the purchase. I actually don't know how they got this information, but hubby says when he bought stuff at our local HE, they always collected his home address, so apparently they know who many of the people are who are entitled to the refunds.
Last year, when they posted the notice about the class action suit, I tried to fill out the form, but my purchases were from 2012-2015-- my last tumbler, still running, was bought in May 2015, so I no longer had the receipts & thus I couldn't complete the form. Needless to say, this was a nice surprise for us. And it makes me believe all this info is still in their data base somewhere so others of you may also have a nice surprise coming. It came in a white envelope & might be mistaken for junk mail if you didn't realize it was coming.
Mods, feel free to move the discussion, I wasn't sure where it belonged.
This is separate from the issue of poor quality control for the tumblers. Some are good, some are bad, but the bad ones weren't tough to exchange, and we already thought the price was excellent if you are also willing to tinker a little. So I may be buying another tumbler soon to add to the workshop if they still offer them.

A Harbor Freight just opened near me. I was thinking about stopping in and seeing if they had a tumbler on display. Have read everything bad about them, but want to see for myself. Yes, several models are still for sale.

The surprising thing is you are using an HF tumbler for three years. They must have improved them.

peachfront.........that HF gift card is good news.....unfortunately, I purchased all three (duel 3lb barrel) in 2017-18. They all run, but one needed some serious TLC. The other two have not had any issues and still run quiet........a little maintenance now and then seems to be the trick to keeping them in good working order........at least the barrels have been made very well, never an issue.........Thanks for the up-date.

HF gets a lot of bad reviews I was very hesitant at first buying from them but I now do and am very happy with most everything I have gotten. I tend to reasearch them pretty good before purchasing something they are mostly chinesium made but just about every thing is these days many things are made in the same factory just have different QC applied to them by the companies that resell them for instance Dewalt does this to some extent. I can remember when Japan entered the market place and everyone bad mouthed them now most of their stuff is of the highest quality. I don't like the idea of buying from China but I wouldn't be able to afford a lot of things I have if not.

The surprising thing is you are using an HF tumbler for three years. They must have improved them. Well, we've done some tinkering on it, but yeah this one has been running without a break for over 3 years. I bought two, the other one lasted two years & then something with the motor... It's hit or miss but the price was right... or I thought the price was right... apparently it should have been even cheaper.

I've had mine for almost three years with never a hitch. Got lucky maybe. Happy I made that purchase. Just yesterday pulled out two barrels of Suwannee river agatized oysters and corals; beautiful.

That's great to know. I'll know better when I use a chainsaw to tumble my rocks.

Underwriters UL allow oversea electrical components of any quality from oversea suppliers. UL should be hung by their heals. Thank oversea payoffs to our dear UL inspectors. Just try to obtain a UL certification in this country as a small businessman ha ha - not gonna happen unless you fork over $
