Hi! My name is Dacia and I live in the Florida panhandle. I am very new to tumbling, something I got interest in from my love of crystals. The more I learned about crystals/minerals the more I wanted to learn and the more I wanted to take my hobby to a new level. I'm very happy to have found this forum as I don't have any friends or know anyone IRL that tumbles.

from Tennessee. We have a lot of talented people here who love to share what they know. Glad you've joined! Hey fantastic5 : I'll be headed to TN and NC in Sept. I'm guessing there are probably alot of posts about good rock hounding spots in this forum but do you have any personal recommendations? Not a lot here in Tennessee that are not on private land. I only had access to one Tennessee agate location briefly, but that is now closed. North Carolina forestry service has changed the rules and made it very difficult to collect. You can still surface collect, but can get in a lot of trouble for having a hammer or hand trowel in many areas. Chunky Gal Mountain/Buck Creek area is one of those area's. From what I understand you can still surface collect. But I would touch base with the forest service office just to be sure. You could also look at the Ray Mine in North Carolina, but you are less likely for find anything interesting surface collecting there. If you don't mind paying, I would recommend the Little Pine Garnet Mine in North Carolina. You will certainly find some almandine garnets (not gem grade, but can be shined up really pretty). Also look at Hogg Mine in LaGrange, GA. Diamond Hill in South Carolina and Jacksons Crossroads amethyst mine in Georgia. These are all private mines that charge daily fees, but are all worth the visit. None of these are a 'buy a bucket' place. This is real mining, or at least digging through tailings piles if not actual in situ mining. If you want the easy buy a bucket place you will find those in Smokey Mountain Park area and Franklin, NC.
