Never polished Chatoyant previously........bought some from the RS a year ago, waited until I had refined my skills a bit and able to shape with the diamond faceting disc's........!
They didn't result as "perfect" (if there is such a thing) when only TUMBLING rough, but considering my lack of experience, I'm pleased.
The process went like this...:
5hrs of disc shaping rough 24hrs of 120/220 Sic/ceramics in the vibe 24hrs of 3f-400 Sic/ceramics in the vibe 24hrs of 8f-800 Sic/ceramics in the vibe 18hrs of Covington Gold #2 polish/ceramics in the vibe 30min of medium/course walnut shell burnishing
Total of approx. 5days start to finish......now that's more like it......lol
Dry rough I started with
Dry finished
Dry finished
Background reflection certainly makes a big difference with this stones photo presentation..........and my cheap-ass camera......lol
All pic's under the same (identical) lighting conditions........like the white background (hides) the imperfections.

I'm liking these.
Pre-shaping is the fastest way to get 'em finished I'd say.
Still looking for the "perfect" tumbled rock myself...

Looks like you had some pretty good results from doing preshaping. As to flaws and such, I've not yet had much luck with tigereye from RS. Just when I think it's just about where I want it, new pits or flaws develop. Some have said that RS has a heavy hand when it comes to breaking up rock, but I've not made a decision yet when it comes to this stuff.
You mentioned lighting and your photos. I don't know your photo experience, but your photos can easily be explained due to the use of different backgrounds. If you would care for me to elaborate in a subsequent post, I will. Otherwise, I'll just sit back.

Those look real nice! That's a material I've been wanting to try also, but they'll have to wait. I've kinda been on a buying frenzy as of late, and boxes of rough are starting to pile up. Good problem to have, I guess.
