Are these shells in this rock? If so, any idea what kind? Bought a couple chunks of this from an eBay seller who was liquidating an estate, so I have no idea where they were originally found. Just realized it would have been helpful if I'd put something in the photos to so scale/size. If it helps, the edge-on shot is about 2" high.

Looks like snail shells. Seen snails like this in some travertine.

Thanks, vegasjames. Now that you mention it, it does look somewhat like travertine.

What does the face look like? Here's a shot that shows both the sawed and rough faces. I also have the bookmatched twin to this one. Paid $5 + shipping for the pair.

I thought I saw something in your last photo. This sure looks like Turritella. Upper right corner. Also appears to be some clams there as well. Score.

My original plan was to slice one of the chunks into pendant shapes and bash the other for tumbling fodder. Now I'm rethinking that plan. Maybe try to face-polish them and keep as "display items".

Take a slice off each one, then face polish.
