Random stop while looking for an ice cream shop led to a great connection made. Someone was liquidating most of their rough rocks, finished cabs, tumbled stones, etc. We talked for quite a while. He only had a few things out and I was not going to photograph those. What a time to have limited cash on me and no place nearby to get some. Sale was at a storage unit and several people were selling their items. I only purchased a small slice of Nautilus Shell Fossil. It needs a little refining, but the price was right. He had a beautiful end cut of Sodalite that was about 30 lbs. Colors were great. Wanted $50.00 for that. An end cut of chrysocolla that was about 20 lbs. for $20.00. Colors were apparent turquoise and sky blue. They ran throughout the piece. Matched sets of Nautilus up to 6" that were expertly polished. Some had crystal vugs. He has to clean out another storage unit in the same town. What he had on the tables was less than 10% of his inventory. I offered to help. He said I would be rewarded. He recently had a stroke and has some challenges. He had decided it was time to give away some of his items to someone that would use them. Said what got his attention was when I knew the names of some of the rocks/slices that he did not. The Petosky Stone was an excellent example. He knew it was fossil coral, not that there was a specific name for it. Mary Ellen and Turritella were some other examples. Thank you RTH members for expanding my knowledge. PS, could not believe there was no ice cream shop in this town, lol.

What kind of town doesn't have an ice cream shop?
I miss butter-brickle ice cream. They have never even heard of it around here.
You were in the right place at the right time.

I was wondering why this tourist town had no ice cream shops either. Summer population is about 5000, winter is less than 1000. Lot of lakes within the town and nearby.
Remembered to give person selling lapidary supplies my business card, which is a plus. He does not do internet, so I will also be helping him with reasonable prices on his 1000+ lbs. supply of end cuts, slabs, finished cabs, etc. We plan on pricing at 50% of the going rate. He is thinking about having me post some items on internet and sell for him.

Nope. I did not stop at all the small coffee shops/lunch diners to see, but no one had ice cream on their signs.

NO DQ. Hard serve ice cream only with cones in a variety of styles. Thinking 6 cone options to start, including specialty flavors, gluten free, etc. It would be a start up, independent business, no franchise. Most of the cones locally made or custom made on site with a press. Dishes made the same way. Nothing purchased commercial. That is what people in this area want.
Yes, the shell is very nice. A little work and good to go. The seller will be bringing more items for me next sale.
