These are a two tips for success at tumble polish stage for obsidian and glass(basically the same thing). 1) Angle of (optical)reflection needed before moving obsidian to polish, a cheap and easy test. Or you can buy an electron microscope. Put a flatter piece of obsidian that you think is ready to move to polish on a prop, in this case a water bottle in a room with the low light. View the obsidian at a sharp low angle(15 to 25 degrees) and check for reflection of a window with panes. **This tumbling prep is the trickiest. If you see defined widow panes then you should be good to move to polish. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/873/42335767482_da6f1be708_z.jpg) 2) Tumble only small pieces for higher chance of success. Tumbles all less than 12 grams is a good start. No large tumbles(to avoid frost). If this helps all these are all 8 grams or less, perfect for a start. Out of Lot-O last night. They are not well cleaned and were not burnished. They are shiny as hell for only 24 hours. No fancy photo staging and no cherry picking. Just the real thing: ![](https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1744/42360660422_f42253cfb9_z.jpg) Other factors not discussed here for success are your slurry thickener, abrasive and percentage and type of media. Just reflectivity and tumble size specifications.

Great job! You are the guru when it comes to obsidian and glass Thanks Alison, mind you they are the only thing tumbled. It has become mere repetition. For the first time in almost 3 months all tumblers are shut down. Taking a sabbatical and respecting the holiday. Been waiting for this batch of lips to come down the chute so the Etsy shop can be dialed in. Will use them as the theme "lips jewelry"(see tumbling photos) hoping to generate some sales.

You should really get a Instagram and market your pieces Does Instagram require a lot of maintenance ? I am not familiar with how it works, just thought it was a social platform. I like selling to strangers, not so much selling to a forum group or friends or friends of friends. You know, like networking with those you know.

Not alot of maintenance and its a good way to get your product out there.
