Thanks Sands, This is my High Tech set up. A bunch-o-crap on my dining room table. Styrofoam to hold the stones, dremel wanna be, spray bottle, goggles, ect. The cat jumped off the table before I could take the pic. I won a very cheap digital camera for test driving a car and this is the best pic I've had so far. No Nacro, and "5 feet away" bites. Anyway, thought you big timers would like seeing my low tech approach Lesson learned: (as Nike would say) JUST DO IT! have fun, everyone ;D cookie

Can give you a hint about the camera, especially if it doesn't have a macro mode. Get yourself a magnifying glass and hold it at the end of the lens, works great for getting "up close".
LOL, cat on the table, that must be fun when your trying to do jewelry.

Looks like a pretty good set up to me, Cookie. And, if low tech works, then you go girl! Since you are selling your stuff, I'd say it works!
I have been hesitant to do my dremel rock grinding in the house, but guess since winter is coming, I am going to have to set me up some sort of "rock" area.
Sands, if I remember correctly, you said you live in an apartment. Do you use your Lortone grinder in the house? Does it make a huge mess?

llana as long as you use a water drip it keeps the dust down but when i polish on the drum it gets dusty cause you dont use the water drip but it cleans up with a wet rag--i would recomend a dust mask for that you will be sittin in a cloud of cerium hahahaha

Sands, I don't have my grinder yet so I don't know if it comes with a water drip or if I am going to have to set one up myself. If I have to set one up myself, I already have the pics/info from you to do it. Thanks! It comes with a new expandable drum but I don't have any idea what grit it is. Also comes with a new sanding and polishing belt. Until I get it I don't have any idea of what I will need to get to grindin'. You will probably get zillions of IM's and emails from me asking questions. I gotta start thinkin' on where I can set me up a grindin' station in the RV. Been wanting to rid myself of this U-gly sofa for a while, so it may get gone to make room for a rock station. Heck, I rarely have visitors and Max is the only one that spends anytime on it. He might be mad if I throw his sofa out the door. Oh Well! ;D What's more inportant - me having a work station for my rocks, or Max having a sofa to snooze on? llana llana

hey llana i dont mind questions ask away if i know the answer ill tell ya if not we can fig it out haha,, that expanding drum has no grit the belts he gave you go on that so you can buy belts and use dif grits by switching belts i think there great,, i use a 100 grit carbide wheel on one side and an expading drum on the other for the rest of the grits and the polish belt,, your lucky he gave you a polish belt they go for 39.99 so your ahead of the game hell i just paid 56.00 for a expan. drum too

Sands, the pic of the grinder shows a sanding belt on it - it's a 220 - but I don't know if he is including the sanding belt or not. Guess I will have to order me some belts. What grits should I get? Where do you get your belts?
The sanding/polishing wheel takes the pads, right?
I don't think I will have any problem learning about the grinder, how to use it and such as soon as it gets here and I can actually see it in person.

way to go Cookie!!! nice bit of territory, that dining room table.....i am slowly expanding my empire as well and the cat occasionally dares to wander up on the work surface, she tried to get a polished rock off the paper plate i had on the table, but she leaves the beads alone for the most part......the string and stuff is another story.
can't wait to see some of your finished product!

llana i use 8x3x25-7/32 so if you have a 8x3 expand.drum thats the size you will need--i won a grinding wheel on ebay and the guy threw in about 15 assorted belts,, so i have been useing them they last pretty long im still on my first one of each grit,, ill look i think i remember finding cheap belts they go for around 3.50 each but i think i got a link for a better price ill look and post it when i find it

cookie its made outa rubber and there slits all around the outside rim you slide a belt on it and when you turn on the grinder it opens up and holds the belt tight wile you grind when you stop it shrinks back and you can change belts--(grit)--- so instead of haveing one grit you can have as many as you want with them
