Wanting two hard diamond wheels 80 and 180 or 220 maybe and would like them wider than 1" or 1 1/2", I see Kent Supplies has some on Etsy-Anyone ever heard of or used them? Any other recommendations for wider wheels appreciated too

To find out what wheel sizes are available, go to big suppliers like KIngsley-North. One of the participants on this forum is John of JSGems. I would not buy wheels without talking to him to see if his price was close. He sells good quality equipment and treats you fairly. You may be able to buy something =cheaper, but educate yourself on sizes using the name brand suppliers. Buying equipment is fun, but buy carefully with an educated viewpoint.

Whatever you do, don't buy from Han, Chinese whatever he calls himself now. I bought 2 of his 8x2 wheels for the club shop and both had the electroplated diamond bubble up from the steel core, and he didn't make it right.

Diamond Pacific custom makes (for a little more $) their 7 5/8" Galaxy wheels in 2" wide. Made to order so you have to wait. Made in USA. I've heard pretty good reports on the Sashi (sp?) Indian wheels too. Don't know what sizes they have. I think a lot of forum members buy from Jade Carver.

I see the extra wide wheels--Anyone use the 6" x 2 1/2" wheels and if so are they preferred over the 8 x 1 1/2 or 8"x2" and why in your opinions please? Trying to finalize my wheel purchases. I'm refurbing an 8" Raytech Gem Maker with as many wheels as I can reasonably put on it. Think I can get 2- 1 1/2" width wheels on each end and 4 in middle. May not do that many. Also, does anyone still use an expandable drum for high level polishing (beyond 3000). Debating on leaving the right drum for polishing belts. So would be left side 80 and 220, 280 600 1200 and 3000 middle and drum on right for high polishing drum. Sorry for the rambling, Thanks in advance for all comments and advice.

How much space does that leave between the wheels? I find that when they're crammed in together too closely it's difficult to work larger pieces. My genie gives me fits at times for that reason. If I had unlimited bench space the genie would be 4 wheels, 80-220-280-600, and I would have an additional 2 wheel arbor with expandos and belts.

should be able to put 1/2" spacers between them. Do you think that is enough? I agree about the Genie. I used one at Lapidary school and the wheels were a bit tight together. Wonder what their spacing is?

This is what I'd like for mine except maybe 80 grit where left drum is, 4 wheels in middle and maybe drum on right end.

I bought some DP aluminum 2 inch Titan spacers. Two inches between the 80 and 220 hard wheels and between the 600 and 1200 soft. The space between my 220 hard and 220 soft is less. There are dividers on the machine and I tried to work with them.
