Hello everyone, I mentioned last week that I had a piece of petrified wood that looked a lot like the Devil's Tower monument in Northern Wyoming. I knocked the dust off of this piece and got a photo taken. I keep the post card with this piece on my shelf, to show the likeness of the two. What do you think? Let me see if I can remember the Indian legend that tells the story of Devil's Tower: An Indian woman was in the forest gathering berries, when suddenly a bear came through the trees. The woman ran for her life and the bear gave chase. She prayed to her ancestors for protection, as the bear was getting closer and closer. All of a sudden the earth gave way where the woman was standing. The rock she was standing on was being pushed upward to protect her from the bear. The bear was trying very hard to get to the woman. It would jump up and dig it's claws into the stone trying to get to the woman, but never did. I guess she lived happily ever after In a nutshell it went something like that anyway We had a nasty electrical storm roll through here on Saturday evening/early Sunday morning. The computer suffered a power surge that zapped the DSL Modem and my Ethernet card . They have been replaced and it appears to be working fine now Have a great day! John

Hey...good likeness. I'd sing the musical chords from Close Encounters...but trust me you do NOT want to hear me sing. Also true about the devil's tower legend. But I'm not sure how much of that is just the Native Americans' having you on. It's really a very sacred site ... and it's powerful...if you've been there you know what I mean. Not to get oogaboog about it but I can't see why it's considered sacred. I'm rapidly falling for the lure of pet. wood. I had no idea it was so colorful and varied. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Hey, that's neat, it does kind of look like it. Now all you need to do is mount it on a nice slab, glue some little trees around the bottom and you'll have a miniature of the real thing.

Wow. I just drove across WY a couple of times about 2 weeks ago. Sparing the details here, I can only say that I popped out onto I-90 and looked out there where Devil's Tower was supposed to be and IT WASN'T THERE. My long suffering traveling companion tried to offer alternative ideas about this, such as terrain, direction of our travel, etc., but I have stuck with my original theory that the aliens took it along with them on a recent visit. Either that, or they have invaded me (probably through using Wyoming rocks in some not-yet-understood way) and are messing with my head or in some other way disappearing Devil's Tower but I am the only one who notices. Who knew.

Hello again,
Don - I am not sure, I believe that an eagle flew by and dropped some white wash on the edge of the tower. When the Indian maiden went to see how to get down ... she slipped on the poo and fell down! I think she was okay ... but, don't hold me to my story.
Puppies - I used my incredible shrinking juice (a jalapeno dirivitive) and brought it home with me ;D.
Don't tell anyone though!
Enjoy,
John
