This one's headed for the display shelf. It's a big and heavy slab of Crown of Silver psilomelane. One side is polished, showing the striking malachite-like patterns in contrasting black and silver this material is known for. The slab weighs 10. 4 ounces and measures about 4-1/2 x 3-3/4 inches by 1/4-inch thick. The patterns are mostly too large for making jewelry-sized cabs and I want to keep it intact as a spectacular display piece. Love this stuff!

Great pattern! Glad you aren't going to risk sanding down through, and possibly losing, it (not to mention that it would be a messy job to try).

Great pattern! Glad you aren't going to risk sanding down through, and possibly losing, it (not to mention that it would be a messy job to try). It's a mess I love! I have lots of jewelry-size slabs and it's one of my favorite cabbing materials. This piece struck me as being more suitable for display. I'm used to scrubbing my nails and having dingy fingers for a few days after a cutting session. I don't mind - the results are worth it to me. |
