Hi all. Cal(Redwoodrocks) came by with his digital camera and took some shots of my homemade tumbler and some of the rocks I just finished tumbling, so here goes. and here is what comes out of them this next pic is of some that I scanned Nothing fancy, just functional. But at least you can see the detail of how the tumbler is built and driven in these pics. Gotta get a digital! Well, first a job. Thanks for lookin' Ed

Nice setup and tumble job! I'm no do-it-yourselfer, so I just pay Lortone for my tumbling privledges In your close-up rock photo, I see that the rock faces are very flat. That's usually a sign that the tumbler is going too slow for the rocks to tumble, and are sliding down the face of the barrel. But those flat faces would make for great pendants, so I don't know if you designed it that way or not, or cut the stones that way before tumbling, but it looks like you have some great pendant potential there.

Hello Stoner! That's a great job you did building your very own tumblers! I always admire people who can build things by themselves. I do my own share of do-it-yourself projects and I know how great it feels when we finish a project. Cheers to you for that!

i wouldn't have a clue how to make my own tumbler so that is really impressive to me. is that how much coffee you had to drink to get that thing together? john i wish my bill was $248 at this time of year. the bill at the office was always really low and that always made me feel better until the electric guy showed up and said we had to have a new meter and now it's double or triple what it use to be. he said we didn't have a "commercial" meter. so even though we aren't using any more electricity than before we must be punished because it's a business. that bites!! kim

Wow! I'm sure glad I don't have your electric bill. That's horrible!! I'm sure mine will go up some when I get all the tumblers going but we are fortunate to live in an area that has extremely reasonable electric rates. Nice job, you have some really gorgeous stones there. [glow=red,2,300]~ Cher ~[/glow]

Cool, After seeing your picture I had to call my fiancee over to my computer to show him your tumbler, I have been "asking" (bugging, haha) him to make me one, as he is VERY handy at things like this. I thought it would give him better idea of what I would like (want, ) Did you buy the barrels? Bunny

Hi all. Cookie/Jack: The barrels are made from 4" ABS(drain pipe). The longer one is 10" long and holds about 6lbs of rocks at 2/3 full. I made the base to hold 2 10" barrels, but as you can see, by making my own barrels, they can be any size. The smaller one is around 6" long. I have most of the materials to make a base that will hold 4 10" barrels, but haven't gotten around to making it yet. I am considering making one of those truck tire tumblers. Watch Out! And Cookie, I don't know what kind of rock that gery/black one is, but I like it too.

KD,
I got the book this afternoon from Ed. I'll look at it over the weekend and send it off to Cookie on Monday.
I am going to see if I can't find a blank map of the US at work, I'll mark San Jose and Felton on the map and put it in the book. It will be interesting to see how far this book travels.
I already noticed that the book was shipped from Portola Valley, CA. About 30 miles from Ed's house. So far, the book has criss crossed the country twice already.
