I went out for a couple of hours on Sunday and finally got to washing what I collected. I think this will be a really good Fairburn- it's soaking in Iron Out now to bring out some of the bands, but I have a question. Forgive my ignorance, but is that quartz on the outside, and how do I get rid of it? I'm thinking vinegar, but not sure. Any help would sure be appreciated!

Why in the world would you want to get rid of the quartz?
She is beautiful and so full of character

If it is quartz I doubt vinegar would do a thing to it.

drocknut- Yeah, I'm new to all of this, I don't know 100% that it is quartz...
alikat218- Maybe you're right. I'll wait until she's done with her bath and see how she cleans up. She really does have character. Maybe some secrets are better left to the imagination- but I'm so curious to see what she's hiding!

I like the contrasting colors.
If it is iron, the Iron Out will remove it.

I just meant what's on the surface, under the quartz...I haven't advanced to the slicing of rocks yet!

Breath, its alright, I dont think I would cut it but, please don't try to remove the quartz from the exterior You can tell she has little pockets of sparkly jewels hidden in her. Really its beautiful just as it is .

I like the contrasting colors. If it is iron, the Iron Out will remove it. I haven't noticed that happening with previous specimens I've collected. I had one that had a quartz center with unique bands and it just cleaned up the bands. Course, that may not have been iron and this one may have iron. I guess we'll have to see... This is the previous one, after soaking. It kept most of the color, if I remember correctly. Attachments:
