Hey! Getting my old-new Lot-o single barrel set up. I seem to recall reading somewhere about filling that "nipple" in the bottom of the tub so that it doesn't collect hard-to-clean grit and residue. Experiences with this? Comments?
Thanks, Argh

I also filled 2 barrels with epoxy (one for 120/220 grit and AO500 and one for polish only). I had the 120/220 fall out week 2 of use, and haven't refilled it. Zero problems that I've noticed with clean outs or issues. Seems like it wasn't worth the time at all to fill for me.

It was well worth the effort for me. I was always getting pieces of ceramic or small rocks wedged in the hole. I had to dig them out so that I didn’t accidentally trap grit in there. I don’t remember the exact epoxy I used, but it was whatever I had in my shop from some other project, so it would have been readily available at Home Depot or some other local hardware store. I twirled the epoxy onto a stick and then lowered it into the barrel so I could get it into just the hole. It’s been in there for about six years now with no problems.

This was exactly my concern: the possibility of that epoxy plug loosening and/or falling out. That's a lot of vibration to withstand. (I'm not Captain Obvious, he's my uncle.)

Several others have had the epoxy fall out. I think if you use 2 barrels ( a dedicated polish barrel) then it's no big deal. If you use the same barrel for all stages it is more important to remove grit fully and then the plug becomes more important.

I wonder what causes that? I don’t think I ever mentioned the type of epoxy I used. Could it be the epoxy type? Could it be how clean the hole was before filling it? Drying time? How full it is?

Not sure the issues? I think the work is easy to fill the holes. If someone wants to go for it! Since mine fell out I’ve had zero issues but if I start having some I’ll refill it again. I’m less inclined with 2 barrels. I did wash out the barrel before the epoxy - I need to check the epoxy type I bought it was recommend to me here.

I stopped bothering to clean out the little dimple, as I only ever use one grit in each Lot-O barrel.
I did get separate barrels to use for a coarse grind, and another one if I want to try a different polish, but I hardly ever use either of them. I generally finish in two steps (with the second and final step being 400 AO in a barrel dedicated to that grit).

I use two barrel's (one for polish), and have not filled in the dimple. So far, I haven't had any problems.

Thanks all, for this discussion. As always, your expertise and experiences are appreciated.
I've got a second barrel on the way, ordered a couple days ago.
