On a couple of other threads cookie and puppies said their bowls wore through. I haven't had that particular problem (yet), but another problem presented itself. I tried to explain it, but don't think I did a very good job, so I took some pics and made what I hope is an improvement that will prevent this particular problem.
The first problem I had, and this happened not long after I got the vibe, was the threads on the shaft wearing away. Pic is blurry, but you can see there are no threads left on one side of the shaft.
When I first noticed this, I was still able to tighten the nut enough that the bowl didn't rotate. Then I noticed that the hole in the bowl was getting larger and larger and it got where no matter how much I tightened the nut, the bowl would rotate wildly.
This is my coarse bowl with it's huge hole!
Here's a pic of all my bowls. The one on the top is my polish bowl. The one of the left is my prepolish bowl. The last is the coarse bowl. I guess the hole in the coarse bowl has grown because it is used more than the other two but you can see that the pre-polish hole is growing!
So, here is what I did to hopefully prevent the threads from wearing away and the holes getting bigger and bigger.
I took a piece of plastic tubing and put it over the spindle. Works perfect with the coarse and pre-polish bowl, but the hole in the polish bowl hasn't grown enough to fit down over the plastic. But, if the other bowls are any indication, it will.
Even with the plastic tubing on the shaft, I was still not able to tighten the nut enough to keep the bowl from rotaring around, so I took one of the washers from my rotary bowls and put it on, then the nut. WA-LA problem fixed. No more bowl swinging wildly around.
Anyhoo, thought I would share this in case anyone else with a vibe tumbler has had this problem.
