PLEASE DO NOT STACK< STEAL< OR MOVE THE ROCKS AND STONES AT THE PARK
Today I walked south from Cave Pt, and I found almost 30 rocks had
been pulled from the path (towards the Dunes Beach).
Oh my gosh. I didn’t realize folks were pulling rocks out of the ground, too. That will contribute to erosion along that path, and perhaps the loosening of the tree roots ?
If there's enough public awareness of the damaging effects of the 'stacking rocks', and we can educate how it was practices as directional for travelers, etc, then it may be easier to get people behind the environmental benefits of
"take pictures, leave only footprints".
An update to what we will be doing moving forward in the season about the rock cairns. Staff will be to knocking the structures over going forward as much as we can. We will also be posting temporary signage, until the permanent signs arrive, that states “Help protect the natural landscape. Do not remove or stack stones.” We will be educating the public as much as possible as the questions arise about it. It is also our goal to have Steven conduct a program/programs that state the importance of leaving the rocks where they lay.
