Just finished the first cut, have to out and open it up and get ready for second cut. 30 inch saw, don't like to open to soon after it shuts down.

I super glue a piece of card board to the heel and then glue the heel to the piece mounted in the saw. Hey, what a good idea. I would have assumed the cardboard would get too saturated to stay together. What kind of cardboard are you using?

The real advantage of your system is that the cut will be guaranteed to be parallel with previous cuts, i.e. no cheese wedge thick on one end, thin on the other because the piece was not totally lined up with the blade. This would be important when you are talking about rare or extremely costly material. Every time you reposition a block in the vice you run the risk of an irregular, less than perfect slab being the result of the first cut.

Awesome! How long do you let the super glue dry before you start the new cut on the end piece?
And second the question on the type of cardboard used.

What kind of cardboard are you using? usually use what ever i have but it must be dry. thin corrugated. as long as you are using oil and not water. it probably would come apart with water. ihave used it with diesel, mineral oil and ATF.

I put the super glue on the cardboard, use plenty, and the spray accelerator on the piece in the saw. when I align the two i quickly move it around a bit to smear the glue all over, then hold in place a few seconds until the glue sets up. i wait about 10 minutes or so before i fire up the saw. longer might be better. i figure if it will hold the weight of the wood it will stay in place. i have hung 40 pounds using this method.
