I finally cut up two of the bigger rocks Cookie sent me and here's what they look like. They are already in 60/90. I think they are going to be beautiful when finished! BTW, the bright yellow on a couple of them is not the rock, it's paint off the saw! Cookie, ya' better get your wading boots on before it's too cold and get out and collect more of this stuff! I still have several more bigger rocks to cut but this was enough to start a 3 lb. barrel. Of course, I will post a pic when it's finished. llana

Cookie said it is quartz, but I never seen any quartz with that kind of coloring. 'course that doesn't mean it's not quartz! I got it in the same batch as the rutilated quartz she sent me. Don't care what it is, sure is pretty rough, so I know it's gonna be really pretty polished.
This was the first rock I cut on the new 10" saw.

Hi all, Had a tough time opening the pic, had to send the site to Favorites before it would open. But... That's GA red Clay Quartz allright. The soil here makes for some beautiful coloration, especially what I find in the river. Can hardly wait to see the end result. Emerald, if you are out there, we GOTTA stomp in the 'hooch later this month. I think we can rent waders at an outfitter place in Helen. My husband and I looked at the pic and decided that, after polishing, at least 3 of the piecse will be rutillated, it's hard to tel in the rough. I'm thrilled they are, well, something good ;D

Cookie, Oh...I can't wait!
Though have a trip to Minneapolis the weekend of the 17th....maybe after that?
I remember seeing some BEAUTIFUL rutilated here....oh if we're so lucky!
Cookie...also gathering a quartz/amethyst care-package for you....since you're so far away from Ivey. You might find something pretty to experiment with. By the time we meet...I should have the first batch close to polish stage. (Though I was so afraid to mess with the better pieces, I threw in alot of junk in with the load. But...you'll get an idea how it shapes up.)
trip to Helen Georgia - tank of gas
food for the day- $50 bucks if my son comes...he eats like a horse $0 for me...I'll pack a lunch
picture of two women wading in a creek in hipboots looking for "pretty rocks" - PRICELESS

Hey Llana, The ones we think are rutillated are: Second row, on the end, big and dark If you count the last row as those cut off Next to last row, first. Next to last row, third. You can tell by the gold inclusions that run trough the stone. Hope you got some gooduns ;D The flint you sent me turned out great, hope this does as well. cookie

Ahh...really we're only an hour and a half at the most..2 hrs from Helen AND if your hubby is a chef....I'll be there tomorrow! *chuckles* So will my son if foods involved. (He's almost 6'4"....not sure of his weight...but has lots of muscle to carry bins of our days collections....he'll also collect right along with us if we go on a Saturday or Sunday)
Have a safe trip and I'll wait to hear from you when you return....will know more about my schedule by then too. Hope things dry out and stay dry before you leave.
:-) Boy...this is gonna be WAY too much fun!
