i'm pleased with this small batch, here are a mix of blue lace (from Redwoodrocks) some mex lace, some banded, some plume....i love agate! this was 2 weeks in coarse, one in medium, one in prepolish and 6 days in aluminium oxide polish. these were also in with a bunch of "do over" amythyst and citrine and general filler. i didn't even see the need to burnish these babies. gonna make nice jewelry! some closeups: the jasper in the titanium diox went in for a days worth of burnishing, not the shine i was hoping for (again) but improved with the 5 days worth of extra polish. i may try another round of different polish of just throw in the towel on that batch and move on. Happy Labor Day everyone! KD

Hey kd, those are cool. I had one question though, I keep hearing people talk about burnishing, what exactly is that? my favorite one is the one to left of the quarter in the 2nd to last pic. Mexican lace i think, right? ;D

Those are SO NICE.
A question about them, I noticed some are the same (almost) size shape etc....do you cut them or something then tumble them?
I want to make earrrings etc out of some that I tumble, so it is nice if they sorta look alike.
If you do cut them how do you do it? (dont know anything about cutting rocks yet)
Bunny ps-just took my first batch out of first stage and am washing them at the moment. They look so good I am so happy with them, am going to post some pics tonight of them.

KD, those are beautimuss! Really going to make some nice jewelry!
You have rotary tumblers, don't you? Or do you have both rotary and a vibe?

taking bows, here, thank you, thank you, after a few less than happy results, i'm pleased and proud of this one, i should even take a photo of the dunnage, it really (almost) made the grade this time for the shine factor.....
to answer your very good questions:
JKowalski, burnishing is what everyone is on about when they talk about ivory soap flakes and borax, it's when the wet shine is ...almost there, and you sort of wash the rest of the polish off? the Final Cleaning. and you are right, that is mex lace, my fav or the litter as well. good eye!
Bunny, i have a 6" trim saw that i am still getting used to, but i love it. i preform most of my tumbler material now, only because i have jewelry as an end result to my means. and yes, i only have rotary tumblers. so far. i eye the vibes up in the catalogs everytime.
thanks again, guys, you make my pride...somehow PROUDER!!
if i got any more puffed up i would explode! KD

Krazydiamond, They're stunning! I really like the idea of your pre-shaping the stone before tumbling.
The 4 stones to the left of the quarter are my favorites! (Actually it was difficult to choose!) The shine is awesome too!
Krazy.... Is there a particular trim saw you recommend?

Emerald, i got a 6" Lortone trim saw with a slabbing jig, but at this point, in retrospect, if i had to do it over again, i'd buy a larger diameter saw..........mind you, the bigger the saw the more expensive the blades, so like anything, you may want to start small before you get too deep. the smaller saws you can use with water and a water coolant, other wise you need to do an oil based coolant. i do my cutting in my basement and i'd really need to re-think things if i started to use oil. check out some of the all-in-one machines, trim saw and grinders that Lortone has to offer....they ain't the only manufacturers either.
i love cutting stone, it's like SO addictive (like i need more addictions)....

KD- Those are beautiful agates. I'd love to see some of the finished jewelrey. Are you wrapping, or doing the bell cap or drilling and putting in posts? Great job all around. Did you run the Autmn Jasper alone, or did you have some agates in with it when you tried the titanium?
