While whacking weeds today I found a Hornets nest.
Good thing I can run faster than they can.

Some friends of my folks were a farmer, and his wife a school teacher in Portland, OR. George found a big hornets nest one day, so they bagged it, gassed it, and cut it down at night. She took it to school for the kids to see, the gassing got everything but the occasional larvae that hatched and came out, scaring the kids [4th graders as I remember] pretty bad. Mary put a cork in the opening of the nest and threatened to pull it out when the kids got too unruly; she had taken it home over a weekend for a more thorough kill of the larvae. Apparently it worked well to keep the class in line.

Once upon a time We had a swarm of bees They landed in the top of a tree I climbed the tree to capture them Then planted them in a box They produced sweet honey Until the Bears ate them
