Hello everyone, I do not have much around me in regards to trees, water, rivers or streams ... but, I do get to see some gorgeous sunsets. This photo was of this evenings sunset, just west of Ulysses, Kansas. We had about nine Nighthawks flying around our place this evening. I was able to get a photo with a couple in flight, I hope you enjoy the photo. Have a great day! John

Are Nighthawks, dark grey on top and a dove grey on the underneath side? Tami

Hello, Agatenut - I know exactly what you mean Welcome to the board, it's always good to see new members. Tami - Yes, and they have a white spot on each wing. They were all around last night. I was throwing the ball for my dog Zeus, and they kept dive bombing the ball in mid air ... quite unusual. John

Now I know what we have flying around north Dodge. I have lived here for 5 years and just noticed them two years ago and there were just a few of them, but now we have quite a few of them. Tami

Hello again,
Tami - Yea, they come out at sunset and feed on insects. We have a mercury vapor light above our garage and they are always darting over the roof and catching insects off guard.
Last night I had one within a foot of my hand. They are absolutely gorgeous birds!

OH Yes!!! That's a great an ample sunset, just beautiful, refreshing and relaxing! I've never seen nighthawks, with those colors they must be very beautiful birds. The only hawks that I see are the red-tailed hawks that always seem to have lots of problems with packs of crows chasing them. They are quite large and beautiful, specially when they fly. I just love to watch them. Nice Pictures John!
