Hello everyone, My son has now moved into his new home in town, and his room was up for grabs! Actually, my wife allowed me to have it ;D Bless her heart Here are some photo's of my new work area. I am now inside of the house and I have a lot more room for my madness ;D This is my work bench, with my two Diamond Pacific Genie's and my 8" Crystal Master Diamond Lap. The drawers have the other laps and sand paper in them as well as some tools for changing the wheels on my Genie. This is one of my shelves with the dop pot, music, cd's and various polishes. Here are a couple of framed fossil collections (fossils in paper shale) that my son and I collected in Florissant, Colorado a couple of years ago. My reference books, magazines and spare diamond wheels. I really need to get the rest of my books gathered up and on the shelf! Here is a better view of the shelves. I even ended up with an air conditioner - how lucky was that I still have the shop outside with my slab saws and my tumblers. My wife said I could put anything I wanted to in this room ... but, the tumblers stay outside! I can't complain ... at least I am inside! No more burning the propane heater to keep the air warmed up enough to keep the stones from falling off of the dop sticks, or freezing while cutting cabs in the middle of winter ... this is going to be so nice. It is the warmest room in the house Well ... what do you think? I bet it will work Have a great evening, John

That is just great John. But it is waaaaaay to clean and organized. It will be an inspiration, but how can you get anything done without clutter??? ;D All the best to you, it really is great. I hope you can really settle in soon and start producing stuff for us to see. I'd love to just spend a day just watching how you use all that stuff.

WOW That's great. Wish I had a room like that! I do have an empty bedroom upstairs but hubby's the one to put the skids on using it for anything like rocks. LOL
I agree with Banjo, it's way too clean. Time to get in there and start making some dust. Where's the buckets of rocks? *smile*

yeh, you may want to put some gasketing on the door to keep the dust from spreading, also get one of those static walk on mats to keep pesky bits from tracking all over the house. keep the Mrs. happy and you will live long ( and stay warm) in your new digs...(pun intended).
i'm jealous, so jealous......i need a bigger house.

Hello everyone, I have a box fan that I put in the window to help blow any dust out of the room, when I am cutting stones. Sandsman - there is no way I can keep my wife out of the shop ... she is always coming in and looking to see if there is anything that she wants, so I don't hide it or something Cher - The shelf with the plastic trays are full of preforms (over four hundred) and I have the rock shop outside that has too much rock in it (not too much like too much ... but, too much - I do not have any room in here ) KD - I do have the rubber static mats, they are also much nicer to stand on when cutting cabs. Some days I can be cutting cabs for 12 hours a day - with a hour for lunch, of course Have a great day! It's time to dirty the new room up ;D John

so clean...so neat...You could give lessons in organization (and for me, anyway, shelf construction...or have they already fallen over because that happens to me). Hope you have many happy years of tumbling.

your set-up makes me green with envy. i would like to know how much mess those genie's make after a couple of months of use. please keep me posted on that as i've had my eye on the genies but have held up because i have nowhere to use it if i can't bring it inside. well you inspired me to go clean up my tumbling room - thanks for that . here's what i got out of there i've got to get out quick with all those boxes as the cats are eyeballing that tower (you can see one of them in the box on the floor). and i wish those @#$% brown recluses would get out too. the man fogged the attic this morning and treated the main house yesterday. he's coming back to treat outside when the painter finishes. kim

Hello Kim,
Actually, the Genie's are not all that messy.
The worst part is when you are grinding the stones down. But, if you wipe everything down when you are done ... it is not all that difficult to keep the room clean.
It also depends on what kind of rock you are grinding. Agates, Petrified Woods, Obsidians, etc. are much cleaner than Howlite, Hematite, Boulder Opal, etc.
If you have never used a Genie ... they are absolutely awesome! I have two and I use them both quite extensively. One machine if primarily for the agates and other harder stones, while the other is used on softer stones such as Opals, Turquoise, etc.
If you ever get the chance to try one out ... do so. Or, if you are ever in the area of Southwestern Kansas, look me up and you can try mine and see if you like them. They are sooooooo much nicer than the silicon carbide units.
On an average, I cut about 10 to 15 cabs a day ... and that is taking my time and not rushing things. Today I finished 17 of them.
Enjoy the weekend,
John

Nice room way to clean you will have to work on that. You could use a multi-disc cd changer and a sub woofer and some big speakers too

Congratulations John! That's just the perfect place to work with rocks!!! If I ever get a full room for my hobby I will certainly borrow your decoration ideas ;D Looking at your pics I see that we have the same radio/cd player, the only difference is the color, mine came with a metallic bronze color instead of blue. Very, very nice John!

Hello MoonStone, This is actually my son's cd player ... he did not want it so he left it behind ... so I guess I'll take car of it for a while. My cd player is out in my rock/tumbling shop. I tried to get our big stereo in my shop ... but, I was asked to leave it alone . This serves the purpose quite well. Have a great day! John

so as a matter of interest, what do you listen to whilst cutting rock?
i am still listening to my saw and drill and can't be distracted for fear of messing up blade or drill bit!

Hello KD, I listen to all genre's of music But my favorites has to be Bluegrass, Native American Indian Music (my wife is of Blackfoot Indian decent), Cowboy Poetry, Classic Country (so many to choose from), Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, John Denver (whom I knew personally), Ozzy Osborne, The Carpenter's, Enya, Lisa Keys, Sarah McLachan, Classical ... it just depends on what mood I am in I have to have the music to where I can hear it over the running machinery and the grinding ... so, it can get a little NOISY How about yourself ... what kind of music do you like? Have a great day! John

All of the above, with the exception of most classic country, adding, of course, The Beatles, Nirvana, and a little No Dought on occasion. OH, and Janis. Mustn't forget Janis.

John, nice little rock room there! But, I gotta agree with others - it's just way too clean! You best get busy and mess it up a bit.
