OK, here goes, Haven't done this in a while. These pics took a reeeeaaally long time to down load into photo bucket, don't know why. They may be big. Anyway, as I had said in my other post, they take a front end loader and scoop out some of the mine. Bring it back to the site and dump it. The mound started out pretty big but us and two other guys were working for three days and almost wiped it out. Looks like this: We had 2 five gallon buckets to scoop into, then you do this: The first day we found corundom and rhodalite. The piece in the middle is a good sized chunk of rhodalite, the rest is corudom. We found quite a bit more that day. Just about an hour after we got there on the second day, Michael found this. A 220 carat star sapphire. Best picture I could get, but you get the idea. I have some film yet to be developed, and more on this disc, it just took forever to down load so I'll show more later. Enjoy! cookie

that looks like just too much fun, cookie, really! great pics, i've had slow going with photobucket too, this last time. if your pics are more than 250k it will automatically resize them for you...which may account for the extended time delay. i try and resize my files down to the 100k region before i try to upload, but even that sometimes takes a while.
can't wait to see more dirt pics! hope you got one of the front end loader too!!!!!!!!

Hey KD You want more dirt? Don't have a pic of the front end loader(s) there were 2, but here's a better prospective of the mound. We would fill the buckets and put them on the hand trolley This is some of the beautiful country side And The bed and breakfast where we stayed. It was built in 1887 More later cookie

That place looks so neat, bet it was gorgeous inside. I agree, that looks like way too much fun. I remember one time I got to go panning gold and had a blast, but this looks like it would be lots more fun than that. Great pics, Cookie! Looks like ya'll just had too much fun! The B&B is beautiful. I just love those old houses. And NC is beautiful country - I wasn't into rocks when I lived in Tenn, but went to NC skiing in the winter and just exploring and hiking in the summer. Course, had I known about all those mines, I probably would've gotten to rocks!
One question - how in the world did ya'll stay so clean! I would have been covered from head to toe with dirt! ;D
