I can't help but think an elevated floor and semi enclosed living space would enhance the retention of wood smoke to keep away the bugs. Reminds me of some episodes of that TV show, Naked and Afraid, where the contestants get the crap chewed out of them sleeping on the ground.

If we were able to carry the love and tolerance shown here into the world as a whole and get anyone to follow the example set, who knows what could be born from that?
