Every time I remove a barrel from my duel Chicago Electric Tumbler, to check it, I cannot put it back on. Once the tumbler is turned off, or a barrel removed while running, once turned on, or barrel put back on, it does not move. I have figured out that if I turn off the tumbler, clean the area next to bearings, put new oil on, let it run for about 5 minutes with no barrels on, then put one barrel on for 2-3 hours, then the other, it works fine.
I am using a fine grade carbine oil.
Since I am checking the polish stage barrel almost daily, it is a pain. Might the belt have gone bad? I have some new O ring type belts. Should I replace the belt and see if this helps? Have only had the tumbler for about 2.5 months, but it has been running constant.
The barrels are not overloaded. .5 lbs less than capacity.
Advice appreciated. Thank you.

I have one of those HF or CE tumblers also . Mine won't start the barrels rolling from a dead stop either , I just give them a push start and it works fine . I also oil the motor shafts every week .

Pushing does not work for me. Have tried for 5 minutes constant. Yes, I am oiling the shafts also.

Really doesn't sound like a belt issue , but could be . Belt too loose , it would slip and you should notices particles of belt on the pulleys and underneath . Belt too tight could overwork the motor . Still under warranty ?

That's the bad issue with HF equipment... It either works or it don't... Does it have the plastic bearing on the rollers? Maybe they need replaced... Hope you get the problem solved soon... Good luck..

Yes, plastic bearings on all shafts. Doing what I can here.

Advice appreciated. Thank you. If you have been running the tumbler continuously for 2.5 months, the belt will either need to be adjusted or replaced.......heat and time stretch these cheap U/V shaped belts. If you attempt to adjust the "stretch" by loosening the motor screws and pushing the motor back, do it in very small increments.....and keep the motor level like it was from the factory, it's very easy to get it tilted to far forward or behind the pulley, which will make the belt tighter but also cause to much deflection....increasing wear.
I have found making the adjustment to best be applied when the motor has been turned off and cooled a bit, then start running and full barrels are in place.......a word to the wise, if you successfully get the older belt adjusted, the belt will run ok for awhile, but replacing it with a new one before adjustments is the better choice.......!........When the belts fail, they seldom give a warning other than slippage.......then they crack and snap quickly........no noise, just dead barrels and motor spin.
Have also tried two different types of belts (besides the stock type).......round and oval.........for this machine, the stock type belts work the best for longer service.......continuously running for about 3 months max. There are vendors at Amazon that sell 10paks of the stock type for around $14.00..........when replacing, make sure you have a "little" arch in the rotation........to much will cause slippage....to tight the belt will not last very long.
Note:
When replacing the belt, it's a good time to clean both pulleys.......just dampen a soft cloth with some acetone or nail polish remover and run it through the inside of the pulley grooves.......check for dirt and wipe it again until clean..........! Do Not wipe the belt off with acetone, just a dry cleaning will do fine for the belt.

The tumbler came with 5 belts and I had 2 of the O ring type already. This tumbler runs pretty cool, was surprised.
Thanks for the advice.

I have a Lortone 3A with the same problem, even modified the chassis to get more tension on the belt. Carefully grab the Driveshaft roller and see if you can stop it by hand, that will show you if it is a belt or motor issue. If you think the roller is strong to drive the barrel then you need to rough-up the barrel and make sure the outside surface is not slipping on the driveshaft. On the 3A that was giving me the problem, the trouble is the barrel slipping on the shaft. My fix was to tip the whole tumbler over toward the driveshaft so the weight of the barrel is more On Top of the driving roller. Works great now.
