I just started working out on a big ranch a couple of weeks ago. Somebody out there is a rockhound. There is one house that has a rock ledge all around the front and there is a huge collection of rocks, fossils, arrowheads and such covering the ledge. On a side where there is no ledge, are the BIG rocks! Here are some pics I took - would have taken more, but the batteries in my camera died and I didn't have my charger - I just hate it when that happens!! This is a big piece of pet wood. It's about 2-1/2 ft. tall and 12 or so inches in diameter. The second pic is of crystal formations on the top of it. This is a HUGE geode found out there. It's about 18 to 24" in diameter - wish I would have had a tape measure with me! These are big crystals. They are tan/beige in color and it appears they are crystal all the way thru. Wish I could have gotten a pic that indicated how much they glimmered in the sun. But, just wasn't able to pick that up. The second pic is a close up on the large one on the bottom. It's about double fist size. You can't imagine how hard it was for me to put these back where I found them instead of in my truck! The small ones, of course! LOL! llana

Well, it wasn't easy, I gotta tell ya'! If I would have found them out in a field or on the side of the road, they would have gone into the back of my truck, but since they belonged to somebody else, I had to put them back! The folks are very strict about trespassers on the ranch. It's county road, but ya' don't dare get off the road and go exploring without permission. The ranch manager and I get along real well and I figure after I have worked out there a while longer and it gets cooler, I will ask him if I can do some hiking, picture taking and rockhounding. It is an absolutely beautiful place. It even has trees that grow out of the rocks! LOL! llana

Thanks Llana for these cool rock pictures. That is sure a nice ranch to visit repeatedly , just to drool over them big boulders. Knowing that you can't take them away is agony . So visiting is not a bad compromise.
My friend Charly Powell has managed to get some big pieces of petrified log to his house in town, with the help of a digger etc. They came from a sheepfarm where the farmer filled in a gully and were discovered during the earthworks. If only I could .....hmmmmm

WoW Llana, those are so cool! I would have been hard pressed to not be begging for a morcel or two. Awesome pics too, I so sympathize with you with those batteries dying. Git 'em charged and take it with you again. What kind of ranch is it and what do you do? (Besides drool over the rocks and stuff?) ;D [glow=red,2,300] ~ Cher ~[/glow] pages.prodigy.net/bestsmileys1/signs/RockOn.gif [/img]
