The Rock Show was somewhat of a disappointment ... or I was expecting way too much. There were about 10 tables set up outside with some absolutely gorgeous rocks ... way way wayyyyyy out of my price range. But I did pick up a few agates. The best part of the day was the ride back when me and my two escorts stopped along the highway to check out Lake Superior. Here's my two grandkids enjoying the waves. They were pretty sure they were big enough to surf on. ;D Further down the road we stopped at another place where it was more shoreline. There was a conservation officer there who said we could pick all the rocks we wanted. Had a ball dancing with the waves, trying to grab rocks before the next one came in. I picked up a bunch of different rocks but didn't get lucky enough to find any "lakers". I'll add some pics of those shortly. Ok, got a few pics of some of my weird rocks. Hope you like them and thanks for looking. I've found more of these, I don't know what the orange stripes are. I have some with white stripes too. This one has a very purplish cast to it. Seems quartzy. Reddish purple, the color isn't very good but the spots seem sort of greenish color. No idea, just thought it was neat. Love the color, seems like it's probably very soft. I like red .... ;D More cool rocks, the one on the bottom, those dots seem like they are little crystals of some kind. This one is really strange. I don't know what the black is but it seems pretty hard. What caught my eye was the red stripes sticking out of one side. Wish I had a chisel to see if I could chip away some of that black stuff. Thanks again for looking ... any suggestions as to what they might be would be greatly appreciated. Also any ideas on what to do with them would also be appreciated. Hey Cher, Don't know what they are, but I like 'em! ;D Very interesting. The one in the second pick, does it feel heavy for it's size?
cookie P.S. The lake is breathtaking!

It's about 2 inches long but only about 1/2 inch thick. I guess for it's size it does have a pretty good weight. ;D I think that's one that I'll have to play on with the dremel. [glow=red,2,300] ~ Cher ~[/glow] pages.prodigy.net/bestsmileys1/signs/RockOn.gif [/img] PS. Most of the rocks are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. The brown stiped one is about 4 inches long. Have to take a knife to 'em and see how hard they are.

The picture with your grandkids looks so natural that I just feel like jumping into the lake! You really got some interesting rocks in there, I started a geology class at college but it is too early for me to be able to be of any help in identifications, maybe later on as I get to learn more :-)

(By the shores of Gitche Gumee, By the shining Big-Sea-Water, Stood the wigwam of Nokomis, Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis. )

I'm sorry KD. Yes, that is a Lake Superior Agate, in the rough, totally unbroken. There is like one little spot where some of the rough outside layer has worn away and you can see a tiny bit of the banding. Here's a pic of one I found earlier this year, the inside of my daughter's will be something simliar to this. [glow=red,2,300] ~ Cher ~[/glow] pages.prodigy.net/bestsmileys1/signs/RockOn.gif [/img]

Great rocks, Cher. No clue what they are, but they look good!
