Greetings from the land of unakite & amazonite!

Our club will be having its 51st Annual Gem, Mineral & Jewelry show the fourth weekend in September (9/21 - 9/22 - 9/23/2018).

Here are some details:

Location:
The Augusta Expo - 277 Expo Road, Fishersville, VA (Between Waynesboro & Staunton on Interstate 64 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia)

Dates & times:
Friday 9/21/2018 2 pm - 6 pm / Saturday 9/22/2018 10 am - 6 pm / Sunday 9/23/2018 11 am - 5 pm

Admission is $3.00 for Adults ❖ $2.00 for Students & Seniors ❖ Children age 12 & under & Scouts in uniform admitted FREE
Admission good for all three days!

Additional details:

• Exhibits from SVGMS members illustrating the beauty & fascinating aspects of the rocks & minerals found in the Shenandoah Valley & around the world

• Minerals, gems & hand-crafted jewelry offered for sale by vendors from the Shenandoah Valley & beyond (Hint - Get your Christmas shopping done early!)

• A ‘treasure hunt’ for the wee folks - let the kids hunt for ‘gold’ & ‘rubies’ & actual gem materials!

• Panning for gold! Demonstrations will be presented by The Central Virginia Gold Prospectors (tentative)

• Ever wanted to see how mineral spheres get made? Check out the process firsthand from a club member who specializes in sphere-making

• A flat lapping display/discussion area - there’s more than one way to polish a rock!

• A cabochon-making display/discussion area - see how you can turn rocks that interest you into polished stones in the club lapidary shop!

• Videos on rockhounding & lapidary topics

• Door prizes contributed by our vendors & members - hourly drawings Saturday & Sunday!

While I won't be there, I love the Shenandoah Valley simply for what it is. My son played college summerball there out of Woodstock some years ago. I wasn't back into rocks then. Would have been interesting to see what was available when I was there.

Thanks, Tela - I know the web site co-ordinator from the Tidewater club has made it up to the last couple of shows, so if anyone else you talk to is interested in coming, there may be a car pool opportunity (call it a "field trip"?) to get up to the Vally.

I was just camping near Marion and stayed at a hotel in Waynesboro. Wish the times worked out better. I'll talk to DH and see if we can squeeze in a another trip. Thanks for posting this.

I'm a big fan of gem and mineral clubs and their shows etc. and I believe they are a vital part of the entire lapidary arts/Rockhounding hobby/business. We are truly blessed (spoiled?) in northern California with probably 20 shows a year that are reachable within a few hours driving distance - double that again if we do an overnighter - Socal or Oregon etc. I would love to see more clubs come on and advertise their meetings and shows and activities but I understand the challenges of such - and us being such a widely distributed community.

rockjunquie we expect a full report with pictures of all the pretty rocks you drag home
