Looks like wood to me. Interesting interior and rind. Will be interesting to see polished.

That's pretty cool. I almost thought it looked like obsidian until you showed the lines inside. Hope it holds together for you to get a cab or two.

The reason I asked is that opalized wood tends to fracture easy. I do have opalized wood with agate seams tho

For a while I was chasing material that looked like Howardite and boughte opalized wood. I got some from Turkey that cut and cabbed fine. 3 cabs from this box. Last row 3-4 form the left.

Hahaha All of the Stinking water wood I have shown on here is opalized, some of it is better than others, some will crumble if left out in the elements. I was going to post a photo but the new posting link is missing this morning. seems to be working when I went back to idit my post. This piece is opalized.

I have picked up some opalized wood at a couple estate sales over the years.
I cabbed a piece, and made a wire wrap ring using gold-filled wire. (sorry for bad pic)
What you can do with it is dependent on how solid it is. This cabbed up pretty well, no surprises.
(Oh, and pardon me for not using a hand-model, lol. I have old person's working hands.)

Thank you, r2d. Made a few of them several years ago, just pulled that one out and wore it a few times.
Now mrrockpicker says I have to make more! Will need to find the instructions...

Looks like wood to me. Still trying to get a handle on what is considered opalized. Have been told some of my AZ stuff is.

Fossilman, all those pieces show what appear to be growth rings consistent with wood. I like the colored section and think it will make some nice cabs. It is hard to tell from the pictures but this wood looks to be on the soft side and doesn't look opalized to me. The photo of the "Purchased-unknown chrome green" sure looks like Oregon's "Hampton Butte" petwood...
