Jugglerguy for makin our trip home from the UP a bit heavier . We roam the UP frequently , but the Ishpeming area is new to us . So I asked Rob if there were other places and things in the area we should add to our must see list . He reminded me of some things I knew about but forgot about , so on the list they went . Just wanted to say thanks to Rob for the suggestions . I will edit this with a few pics later .
As promised , I'm back with photos .
What started out as a trip to Kingsley North to pick up some supplies and a few rocks ended up with the supplies and a lot of rocks .
Only got a pic of the 80 1/2 pounds of baby brazillian agates . Darn people turned us loose in the rock room , said bag , weigh and tag what ya want and bring them into the store . Kept the warehouse worker hauling buckets in for us to pick through , sure glad I had some self restraint . So here is what 80.5 pounds of baby looks like .
After shopping we checked in the motel briefly . Then it was off to the specular hematite mine pile that Rob reminded me of . Couple pics of the pile ,
And part of the guestimated 4-500 pounds we brought home ,
That was it for the first day . The next day we were off to the Ishpeming rock show which was pretty darn good . No pics of the slabs and other stuff from there either , sorry . After that we were off to Jasper Knob , another Rob reminder , which was only a mile or less from the show . Rod told me we have to see that and I am glad we did , so impressive . If ya ever have the opportunity to see Jasper Knob , by all means do it . Anyway , here is some pics of it from a bunch of angles . Can't get it all in one pic .
There was a guy pounding some rock from an outcropping and after he left I went and picked up a chunk , maybe 6-8 pounds , to bring home .
After the knob , Da Yoopers Tourist Trap was the next stop . Crazy interesting gift and rock shop .
When we left there , back to the hematite pile . Had a little room left so we squatted the tires a bit more . Back to the motel and rest up for a long heavy ride home the next day .
Didn't intend to draw this out so long and probably should have posted this in trip reports . Oh well , hope ya enjoy the pics .
