I was recently up in the U.P. visiting two of my sisters and their very large families. I had some problems with my brand new Jeep while I was up there, so I didn't get to get out on the beaches looking for rocks like I planned to. But my sister who lives up there and at least one of her sons caught the rock bug from me and are not interested in rocks too. My Nephew chad works in forestry and told me that his company has been crushing rock from a mine tailings pile that contains datolite for use as road gravel. He said that he occasionally finds chunks lying in the road. This stuff is worth a small fortune if you can find it in the right colors. He gave me a piece that is just white, but it's the first piece I've ever had. I spent a couple days with my kids looking for the stuff a few years ago and never found any. So here's a picture of the piece after polishing. It was broken in half when I got it, so there was no cutting to do and no other half. It didn't get shiny, so if anyone has any experience polishing this stuff, I'd love to know if it can even get shiny. I haven't done much reading up on it yet.

LUCKY!
I've always seen it really smooth and still kind of matte, never shiny

That is a dang good sized Datolite . A friend told me to try tin oxide on them . The best polish I have seen on them is between matte and semi gloss .
