My latest batch...nothing special as it's the same self collected stuff as prior batches but I'm continuing to learn what will shine up and what won't. The top half really came out well but the bottom half not as good. One take away I get from this batch is that fractures are really distracting (to me) no matter how well it shines up so I'll be more selective about that in future. Overall I'm pleased with the progress so far (almost 2 yrs now) and can't wait for the next batch in 3 or 4 weeks!

Looks good. Nice shaping. Don't let the fractures get you down. If you notice some fractures developing during the course of your tumbling, some cushioning might help. However, some material is just prone to having them, simply due to mother nature. Over time, you'll be able to figure out which is which.

I'm thinking most of the fractures were there from the start??... but I never really paid much attention to them as I was focused on shape and shine but now that the shine is getting better the fractures are jumping out so I'll be watching more closely. I had some bruising going on in pre-polish and polish stages a couple batches ago so I switched from plastic tile spacers to aquarium quartz pea gravel and upped the cushioning to 2/3 pea gravel and 1/3 rocks...the bruising went away so I think I'm good in those stages? I don't do a stage 2 /220 so it could only be happening in stage one I think. The highway to perfection is a long road...a really long road...
