Lot o 4# tumbler, ran in the 120 then the 500 check em over smooth ready for the polish , 1 teaspoon rapid polish 1 tablespoon borax good action watched close 16 hours had to check one ( the kid in me lol) out it has chipping check more 50% have some chipping 30% ceramic pellets in the polish run , but at the last minute I had 3 agates that needed polished so I put them in, was that my downfall? Do I start over? Thanks

My experience: Quartz needs a higher percentage of small stuff and a fairly thick slurry.

Small, already polished stones, ceramic pellets, anything hard and pea sized. Use enough to fill every nook and cranny between the quartz pieces so they can't bump into each other.

grumpybill gives good advice. I don't use a vibe, but it was amethyst and quartz that caused me to be extra cautious about cushioning...so much so that I use plastic in all of my rotary stages after coarse. I know we're speaking apples to oranges when it comes to rotary vs vibe, but you still will need to take precautions. You wouldn't think that quartz would be an issue due to hardness, but it's fragile when it comes to bruising and fractures. As Bill mentioned, step up your amount of smalls, and you'll probably be okay.
