I have an old Genie. The pump is a bit fussy, but works. One of the original plastic trays was missing when I got it and I replaced it with an aluminum tray. The plastic shields are kind beat up but work ok.. just not too pretty.. they are old and yellowed and brittle. All of my other cutting machines use drip / pump systems. I really don’t like the idea of splashing dirty water back up onto the wheels while cutting, mostly because I use the Genie in the house and I think it puts more rock dust into the air. I asked a cab king dealer in Tuscon last year if a cab king shield would fit a genie and they said they thought so, but never tried. Does anyone have any experience with doing this? I really like the stainless look and knobs of the cab king. I’m also not sure if you can order the hoods seperatly anywhere online. I think I rember reading about someone converting a Genie or Titan to a drip system by drilling holes in the plastic and installing valves. I’m afraid my hoods are too brittle to drill, they are already cracked in a few places.. I know I can order new plastic hoods from DP, but they aint cheap... so if I could find cab king hoods at a similar price it seems like a better option. Any input is welcome!

How about a couple of these? I have a bunch of the pop together fittings and bought one of his magnets years ago at a show. Don't know if they still sell stuff, his health took a bad turn a couple years ago and they quit doing shows. sphereproducts.com/sphere-products-catalog.pdf Bottom of page 17

I actually just bought some loc line tubing to upgrade the drip system on my flat lap and loc line sells that part your’re referencing still... I think that catalog is just reselling the same item.. They call it a magnetic base manifold www.loc-line.com/product/40463-magnetic-base-manifold-kit/ I’m not sure where I would attach the magnet to the genie. Using loc line tubing and spraying up from underneath could work, but I still feel like the cab king hoods are a more elegant solution.. if they would fit and are available separately...

I use a drip feed on my Genie. Aquarium gangs valve and tubing. The drip portion over the wheels is a plastic T-Fitting with slots cut into them for flow. Chuck

Chuck Is this gravity fed or do you use a pump, and if so, what kind? I use gravity feed. I have never used a pump so I can't compare. I can say that the gravity feed is super reliable (no mechanical parts) and it provides really good flow. I use more water when I cab then most people. One gallon of water will usually last me through 4-5 cabs which is about all I ever do at one time now. Chuck

Your drip feed looks nice Drummond Island Rocks! I’d imagine that the manifold on the front has a flow control for each wheel, but it’s hard to see in the photos. Cutting slots in t fittings seems like a great way to spread the water. How thick is the slot? Do you have holes in the trays for the water to drain or do you just empy the trays by hand? Your genie looks pretty new Does anyone have any experience drilling old yellowed plastic on a 10+ year old machine?

My suggestion is find a plastics place near you, we have Tap plastics but I think it's just west coast. A lot of them have a remnants bin where you can get smaller pieces. Get Acrylic or something rigid. Cut 2 pieces to fit into the top of the genie cover, measure and drill holes in the locations you need, then glue to the top of your covers with an epoxy. Once the epoxy is set, use the holes as guides to drill the rest of the way through, and add your fittings. I would also reinforce your trays the same way before drilling drains.

I found a site that sells a DP genie replacement hood for $85. This is the simplest solution.
I've been using my Genie for almost 16 years I use a recycling pump on my genie. I have two aquarium pumps and three heads for my stardiamond machine. I change the water in the trays before sanding and before polishing. I don't have contamination issues.
The more water used the better the wheels work. On my Genie I used both geysers on one wheel. On my stardiamond, three bubblers. The bubblers are not as good as the genie and the wheels are larger.

If you don't bear down on the drill and use a decent drill bit you should be able to drill the old plastic. If you plan on using it in the kitchen after converting to overhead water good luck. The under wheel spritzers allows excess water to spray to rear pan. Any overhead system sprays forward toward operator. You can minimize with added curtains but never eliminate all the mess. You can buy new leathers to rebuild your air pump for $5 or use an aquarium store air pump if it quits. I never saw any signs of "throwing dirty water" on my Genie wheels and I was not very good at keeping the pans clean.
