Hello everyone, I just thought you migh be interested in seeing our newest addition or should I say additions! Our duck had her ducklings two days ago and they are sooooo cute! Out of 17 eggs ... she had 15 ducklings! They were out swimming in a water hole today ... talk about learning fast! Two days old and already learning to swim. I did not get any photo's of them swimming ... by the time I got back outside ...they has headed for the Lilac bushes for cover. . Have a great day! John

They are sooo cute, but isn't it kind of late in the year for them to be having babies? (Can you tell I'm not a farm girl).

Nice fotos , would be more in time for my neck of the woods.
Cher , them ducks can lay eggs later in the year as these fotos show, but they don't make a habit of it.

It's me again ...
Cookie - they haven't started to sing yet ... but I'm hoping it's country or folk music ;D These ducks (Muscovies) are not very talkative, only the females make noises ... the males do not make any noise at all. That is how you can determine the sex of this particular species of duck.
KD - They are Muscovies. The Mother is a beautiful snow white and the Father is a mottled brown, tan, white.
Cher - Our duck had 11 eggs earlier this year (during spring) that did not do anything at all. We had an extremely wet and cool spring (maybe that had something to do with it?). She then started another nest and was loading it up with eggs. Right at 4 1/2 weeks - the ducklings were hatched.
I've been busier that a one armed man, hanging wall paper lately!
It's funny - you are either dying for something to do or so busy you wish you were dead. Well ... that may be a slight extreme!
Have a great day!
John

my male Muscovies made a hissing sound and they don't fly worth a dam. the girls made little cooing trills and could fly here, there and everywhere, to the great disgruntlement of the males. the girls used to have a nasty habit of flying from the shed roof (where i kept them) to the house roof, right at the corner where the bedroom is.......coincidence? (we know you are in there, wake up and FEED us")
well, one male would sometimes try to fly, but he was such an inept bugger that he wasn't gaining enough altitude and i thought he was going to come right through the window (pull UP, pull UP!).....more than once!
one time he wailed straight into one of the deck support posts (another slight miscalculation on his part.)
mine never achieved ducklings (too many predators) but they sure were imprinted on me. they were my little animated lawn ornaments and they'd follow me all over the yard. they loved it when i dug holes and toss them worms.
thanks for the memories! KD
