Always wondered why sphere makers did not use sintered diamond core drills. They can be had so cheap on EBAY out of China.
You may have to buy different brands to get sintering with more aggressive diamonds. Some diamonds are dull round crystals that cut slow. Some diamonds are broken crystal that have razor sharp edges.
Many variations of sintered diamonds.
cool application

Granted at 50 rpm they dont cut very quickly, however with that much torque you can really, I mean really put some pressure on the stone. I only use these to get stones round and work out most of the large imperfections. Then I switch to my diamond impregnated polishing pads starting at 50 grit, then on up. Currently that succession is 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1200, 1500, 3000. Then leather faced cups with cerium oxide. Rouge and felt wheel for final polish. Topped of with very thin bit of renaissance wax. Sorry for blabbing. Last thing about the diamond hole saws I use. I go in 5mm increments once cups arr within 1/8 inch of touching I swap in next size smaller, if needed. Hope this helps.

Far out. Building your own sphere machine, a respectable project.
