Those are extra nice. I got some from Diane when she was selling some and now I can't for the life of me find it! DOH! I hope you find it. It's harder to get now because the area has a claim on it now. But, of course, just when I have a hankering for some- someone has claimed it. LOL!

I hope you find it. It's harder to get now because the area has a claim on it now. In theory isn't that supposed to make it easier to get? Up till now folks like Tela have to rely on knuckleheads like us to go there and collect it, hoard it for a while, high grade it, cut it, maybe sell off a piece or two... Now that it's under the ownership (not a claim) of wcminer I'm betting it will be flowing freely soon. Some looks like it's grading into purple?? There's a lot of bog agate out there around the McDermitt loop - a lot of it that I've seen starts with that purplish gray and some takes on wild colors like yellows and reds. I've collected some wild stuff - especially over near the purple cow site - but I was never able to produce a decent cab from it. At the Gary Green collecting location there are areas where the material does tend towards the bog agate colors but I have tried to stay away from it.

I'm sure people will be glad to get more of it available now but kinda puts a crimp on those of us who want to collect ourselves. Actually in this case I suppose the claim is a good thing since they are digging deeper than we could with pick and shovel and getting better stuff that is less fractured according to what I've heard. Oh crud I may have to buy some after all...I hate it when that happens....LOL.

You and me both For me collecting is most of the fun, but the real thrill comes when a cab gets finished from something I found. I'm already seeing new Gary Green for sale on FB by that Leane lady. Not sure what her connection is to the property owner (not claim holder) but she's also selling Caldera jasper which used to be called Gary Red because it came from tthe same location. Allegedly both materials are more solid than what we surface collectors can come up with because it was dug up from 15' deep. The pictures look pretty much the same but maybe in hand and in the saw it's more solid.

I have seen the material for sale on Facebook too and I think she is one of the claim holders. They are also the ones who put claim on the Purple Cow area that we know you love dearly. They are saying it is more solid because it comes from 15' down and so is less fractured. Might have to buy some to see for myself.

Oh crud I may have to buy some after all...I hate it when that happens....LOL. The purchase of the site is, and was a very good thing. To put it simply, the site was under threat of being closed off by two entities, possibly more. The EPA is in the process of restricting access to the Opalite mine, just to the east of the Gary Green dig site. The Opalite mine, and tailings are contaminated with mercury, since it is a cinnabar mine. Once they implement those restrictions, access would have been closed off by all vehicles. Since it is under new ownership, we can build new roads without permission or restrictions. Another threat to the site was from the ranchers. Ranchers have been attempting to purchase the site, specifically for the creek that runs through the property. Every rancher in the area hates the rockhounding community, for good reason. Rockhounds continually leave open holes and trespass. So, any negativity focused on the purchase of the site, which has been private property since 1932, should reconsider and recognize that without the purchase of the site, it would have been closed and no longer available.
