nice, but I do see what you mean about the shine not *quite* being there. What did you use?

i used the titanium oxide but it was the recycled that i've saved from a prior batch rather than new. tried to cut a corner there - i should have stuck with what works.

Ok, I've never had a finished batch yet but I think I'd want to try and see if it would shine more too. I love the colors, where do you get that stuff?

yeh, those are too nice not to try again with a different polish...do you have any tin oxide? what is the MOH of parrot wing? is it a hard stone? they are gorgeous, i remember the pic of the rough you posted.....
i can commiserate with you, i had a more than a few batches come out not quite *there*....try again, you may squeeze out a better shine, but even if you don't they aren't half bad the way they are!

ok i put them in tin oxide along with the peach one, cream one and the gold tigers eye. i threw in some dalmation jasper from a long ago batch too to see if it would shine more. if that doesn't work i'll try something else . kim

I don't know what the MOH is on that, but if it's about the same as agate or jasper, I've gotten great results with cerium oxide, my best batches. I love the color and there's just a hint of transparencey that would really pop with the right polish. Good luck!

....and just to note that recycling your polish would not have caused the problem. I do it all the time. It's totally rock-dependent. I have a few rocks that look like yours that I haven't figured out how to shine yet. I'm thinking of inserting another grit step: 60/90, 220, add 600, prepol, polish. I use titanium too and it's been the best "all around" polish. A polish change might help.

skipper i used 60/90, 120/220, 400, 1000 a.o. and titanium oxide. this is the 1st time i've had the titanium not put a beautiful shine on. they were in the titanium for 5 days. usually in 4 they are ready. anyway here's how they are coming along in the tin oxide. i'm going to run them a few more days. even the peach and cream are starting to shine. kim

ya - looking way better. I keep a small tub or cerium for these situations too.
